A Christmas Miracle by Rev. Alaina Damewood

"A Winters Day" by FaceMePLS

It started out a cold winter day in 1991 after several months of soldiers coming home from war. Some of the families affected by loved ones who had died in a local area gathers for a prayer remembrance service at a local courthouse, and then planned to go to the town’s graveyard in Lewisburg, WV, remembrance service to honor other fallen soldiers of the civil war wattle that had taken place in town. The townsfolk and the civil war re-enactors headed over to the death angel statue, located at the center of the grave yard.

They started to say a prayer for remembrance of the fallen soldiers when someone heard a laughing, as if a little girl was playing in the graveyard, and thinking it was one of the children of a family that came today, he stopped service to just to tell the group to keep the small children quiet during service.

The group looked at the service leader as if he were crazy, for there were no children in the graveyard. The service leader thought it strange and kept wondering to himself if he just heard the girl who died in the school bus crash, or if was even the Angel of Death, laughing and giggling at him and everyone else in the graveyard.

After giving the prayer and the group leaving, he went to the grave of the little girl and the death angel and left a giant jaw breaker. Since he would be going through town tomorrow, he decided he would check on the candy. So he returned. Once again, he heard the little girl laughing and giggling at him.

“Is anyone there?” He asked as he walked up to her grave. To his surprise, the candy was gone, and in the snow by the gravestone on top of the grave “thank you” with a smiley face. He checked on the death angel’s grave next to find the candy gone. He thought to himself, “Well, small miracles take place when you least think of them happening. So I made their Christmas day.”

The next day, he went over to the local caretaker of the graveyard and asked him if he had heard the voice of the little girl or the death angel before, and why it was called the “death angel”. “Yes,” the man replied. “There are two girls graves in the graveyard. One is the death angel, who when someone kisses it they die. The other is the little girl over there who died in the bus crash. Why do you ask?”

The service leader replied, “did you go by either of their graves yesterday morning and remove some candy I left at their graves or write anything on near the little girl’s grave?” The caretaker smiled. “Oh, they are playing again with people. No, I did not write anything. So you’re the one who made their Christmas morning. I could hear them playing and laughing as if someone made them happy.”

The service leader thought to himself, “ A true Christmas miracle it must have been.”

The Sacred Power of the Ti leaf

The Ti Plant, also known as Ki, Cordyline fruticosa

This is another story shared by Loa and it is about the power of the mysterious Ti leaf, as experienced by her mother when she was a little girl.

One day my grandmother asked my mother to go pick ti leaves, so my mother went around looking for some. My mother noticed that the vacant house next door had an abundance of ti leaves growing in their backyard, so she decided to save time by picking all the leaves she needed there. She noticed that the ti leaves were planted in a circle and thought that was a little weird, but that did not stop her. When my mother got home, my grandmother was trilled to see all the ti leaves and asked my mother "where did you get them from?" My mother responded "Oh, I got them from next door." My grandmother's mouth dropped open and immediately called the medicine man.

When the medicine man arrived my grandmother quickly told him him the situation and they both started rubbing my mother down with a special ointment that was made by the medicine  man. My mother was so confused on what was going on. She remembers that as night came my grandmother and medicine man  surrounded her in the living room and started to do their ritual. The medicine man chanted in a foreign language and my grandmother being a devout catholic, prayed. My mother remembers that all of a sudden all the windows and doors started rattling like someone was trying to get in,but my grandmother and the medicine man kept on with their ritual until it all stopped.

The next morning my grandmother explained to my mother that the ti leaves she picked were in a circular pattern for a reason. They were surrounding an ancient Hawaiian burial ground for evil kahunas (Hawaiian priest or traditional healer) of long ago. The Ti leaves that my mother picked were planted there long ago by ancient Hawaiians to keep the evil spirits from roaming free, so when my mother picked them she released those spirits.

That same day the medicine man replanted every single ti leaf back in its original place and did a chant of forgiveness. The spirits were back to where they belong and my mother till this day always tells us, her children "Make sure you get permission before picking ti leaves"

The Babysitter and The Balcony

This one is from back when I was still living in Tromsø, Norway. Since I always loved a good story, and my friends loved to share their ghost stories with me. This one was told me, by my friend Rob, he had just been babysitting for a few weeks and was quite eager to share this story with me.

The story went like this, according to my recollection of it; The kids went to bed and everything was calm in the house, while the babysitter was reading books with his back against a door that opened out to a 2nd floor balcony, on the stroke of midnight, that door swung open, he checked the door and closed it thinking it must have been a gust of wind, even though it seemed so calm that night. But no sooner than he sat down the door swung open again, this time he checked it furiously pulling it too see how much it would take to swing open, and figured it would not open easily at all. Closed it and sat down to have the same incident repeating itself. Thinking to himself this seems to be something more than just gusts of wind, he spoke out, letting what entity this might be to leave the house alone, since the parents were not home and he was there to watch their kids.

When the mother returned he confronted her and asked if it was common for the balcony door to open up on its own, were she immediately responded, "ooh that is just my mother, she likes to check out on the kids at night". She took him out on the balcony and pointed over to the nearby graveyard. "She is buried there and loves to sweep by and check us out quite often".

The next night he was babysitting again at the stroke of midnight, the balcony door swung open, but this time he was prepared. Telling the spirit of the grandmother that he was the babysitter, and she didn't need to worry about the kids, and that the mother would be back around 3AM if she wanted to visit her then. All was calm for the rest of the night, and the mother returned on time, and no sooner than she entered the home, the balcony door swung, with the grandmothers spirit there to check on time that everything was in order, and that her daughter indeed got home safely.
