Orbs and Rods are They Really Paranormal?

The one thing we can almost always count on in most paranormal online groups, is photos of orbs and rods. What are orbs and rods one might ask and, how do they fit into the paranormal field? Well, an orb is best described as a round spot of light that is not visible but is captured on a still or moving film. They do vary in size, form, color, clarity, intensity and are a delight to a lot of amateur ghost hunters and a few professional paranormal research/investigation teams as well. However, most investigation teams will not document an orb as evidence on an investigation. Some do believe that an orb is the spirit of one who is deceased but has not crossed over to the other side yet and is still earth bound. Many people believe that an orb is energy of a deceased one's spirit, angel and sign of other paranormal entities. Orbs have also been known as globes, balls of light.

Now let's move on to rods. What are rods? Well, in the world of the paranormal, rods are like orbs except for their shape. Also, rods seem to leave a tail of light behind them as they streak across the film area. Believers say that a rod is a intense amount of energy a type of strange bug we can´t see with our eyes or even beings of another dimension, also known as ultra-terrestials. Many believe that a rod is proof of the existence of the paranormal because rods seem to leave a trail of light behind them and they see to travel at very fast speeds. Rods are also captured mostly on moving film and camcorders. Rods are also know as energy rods, light rods and swimmers.

As I mentioned before, most investigation teams will not mark a orb or a rod as evidence of the paranormal. The reason for this is simply that, there are very many particles of dust in our air. We have very small particles of moisture, fungal spores, plasma, wood dust, plant material, skin cells, rock particles, sot and so on. We have also have seen insects that have shown up on film as orbs and rods, on top of this are the optical effects that cause orb or rod like shapes to appear. Being a paranormal investigator myself, I always decline to accept a rod or orb as evidence of the paranormal. As I said, there are just way to many particles of whatever in our air and, when one takes a photo, or taping a film the light from the flash and any other light source will be is reflected off of that particular particle whatever it may be.

I have several times been shown photos of orbs, and then when the orb in the photograph is blown up it seems to show images within them, more often then not I would say this is regular parodelia where our mind look at the uneven parts within the image and makes out patterns and organize them into figures in our mind, making them look like horned orbs, numbers of 666 and every other form on the earth can be found in this kind of orb footages.

To be honest about it, I have never seen any photo that would give me any reason to think  the orb or rod in the photo could be the energy of a spirit that is still earth bound. Like I explained in my entry What is Paranormal?, once the paranormal is proven, it will no longer be no more paranormal simply by the word's definition.

If anyone has any way to prove that an orb is of paranormal nature, PLEASE feel free to contact me at waikikiblogboi@gmail.com  If you only have a photo of something that says it has it's own light source then, please do not waste your time or mine. If you have a video of a speck of something that changes direction, pleas do not send me that either. Things like that have long been explained. I do not want to cause an orb war here and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If you have anything that can change my mind about orbs, please send it my way.

Of course just because orbs and rods are impossible to use as paranormal evidence does not mean that every orb and rod caught on photo or video is not of a paranormal origin, the problem lays in the fact that it is so many things a orb photo can be, and the same goes for rods.

Interview with Dale from The Mentor Ohio Paranormal Research Society (MOPRS)

In this blog entry, Paranormal Corner is interviewing Dale of MOPRS.

• Since you have a paranormal research/investigation team. Do you do this work because you actually believe in the paranormal or, are you one who needs more evidence of the paranormal and that is what you are searching for?

I am a huge believer in the paranormal I got into this work because I was convinced.. When I was a little bit younger in my early 20s a friend of mine was doing paranormal research before I even started. 

He made a bet with me he would take me to a location that was haunted. If we found any evidence of paranormal activity I would have to buy him dinner. I was in the tunnel all by myself alone in the middle of nowhere, the tunnel was dark and damp its walls slowly collapsing. In that tunnel I became a believer. I had a digital recorder with me that I had borrowed from him he explained to me that he had got EVP's from this particular Place. Putting my hands in the air I said yeah right. He told me walked to the end of the tunnel asking questions. And then after about 30 min. Walk back...I did so asking questions and trying to keep an open mind. Then 20 min. into the tunnel I heard someone whisper something near my ear. When I turn around with a flashlight that I had I saw no one. When I looked at the end of the tunnel I could clearly see my friend. So I know it wasn't him. I questioned him where he was when I entered the tunnel and when I got to the and he was clearly seen on camera he was in a different area completely where I was and there were no neighbors in that area the closest neighbor was approximately 15 miles away.


So in the middle of nowhere I heard something... We went back on his recorder and one of the questions I had asked is there anyone in this tunnel with me.. We got an EVP with the simple response of yes... My next question was.. Why are you in this tunnel?... Then I said in a joking manner like I really believe in you... The response was... We believe in you... And then the third question that I was able to gather EVP from.. Was.. Do you know my name?... And the response was yes we do.. And about 20 seconds later the name Dale class a EVP was heard... This is how I started my paranormal journey and why I have a belief that we are not alone... And we never happen our loved ones continue to communicate with us... As well as others who just want their voices heard..

• Have you ever had a paranormal experience yourself before you got into paranormal research ? If so, can you tell our readers exactly what it was that happened?

Yes actually I actually had him many experiences growing up as a kid but I didn't consider them paranormal nature.. I always thought that I saw things heard things and wish just the type of person that I misinterpreted things..when I was 10 I saw something... And even to this day I have no explanation for.. • As a team do you all have to agree on what is evidence and what is not and is there ever any disagreement on evidence?

Sure there are disagreements on what EVP's have said but this is normal.. You can't be a good investigator/researcher without having a disagreement on what is being said.. Each persons ears hear something different.. This is normal via the human condition.. We are not perfect.. We are human and when we leave we will continue to be human...although we may not agree on everything.. We always try to have a mutual understanding.. An understanding that okay this EVP may not be this it may be this but we still have to mark it as possibly this or possibly that...

• I am one who believes that in time, science will prove the paranormal. Do you agree with that or, do you think otherwise?

I agree with you I think it's just a matter of time before science catches up and everything that we're doing.. Will one day be categorized as a scientific study... It may not happen before my lifetime.. But I believe that science will recognize.. That what we do.. Has some sort of scientific merit.. And the research that we have done will be our future... By studying what is happening.. It might be possible one day be able to talk to a loved one directly.. Wouldn't it be amazing.. That in the future you can pick up a telephone like a cell phone today... Dial a certain number.. Or maybe a certain frequency.. And hear uncle Frank.. Say hello all.. And be able to talk to him for 20 min. 30 min. at a time... I shudder to think what the future holds.. But I'm sure of one thing the future looks very bright.. And the more teams work with each other that future grows.. I am also a firm believer in paranormal unity.. It can be done.. With that being said.. • Have you ever encountered a demon in your work?

When I was a little younger I experienced something that I believe was ..demonic. But I can't say for certain..it might've been an angry spirit trying to tell me to go away.. But I guess I'll never know until I experience think like it again.. Sadly I have not since then... But I continue with an open mind that one day it may happen and if it does I am willing... And able

• Can you tell us about the strangest or scary investigation you have done to date?

There's a place here in my hometown that I truly believe is its most haunted location.. I have been to this location probably about 50 times and every single time I go I get EVP's.. The strange part about this location.. at night the location seems to some we go from a peaceful and serenity location... To a dark and mysterious vortex..we have a lot EVP's from this place..

And every time I go I am always excited to know exactly what i got.. I've invited a few teams to the location all of them had said the same thing... The location is truly haunted... The strangest thing that actually happen at this location.. Was I was alone all by myself scouting the location ahead of time and I picked up the scream.. That screen can be heard on the you tube channel.. In fact I'm going to be redoing the video for it.. That screen was anywhere between 20 and 30 seconds long... And I believe it was a scream from the people that died on the land... I heard the scream but didn't hear the very beginning of it I'll he heard the second part... And it is marked in that EVP with me saying I think I just heard a scream just now... Very odd and what I perceived to be a scream and up being a bloodcurdling scream... To this day I still get chills listening to that EVP...

• For all the folks that do not believe in life after death or the paranormal..... What would you tell them to maybe convince them of paranormal/life after death ?

What would I tell to all of those who do not believe in the paranormal?.. The answer is very simple come with me on a case... And within eight hours I will make you a believer... Managed by Steve and Susanne Taggart and assisted by Vinny Brindle, the UK Shadow Seekers (UKSS) are a Not-for-Profit, Volunteer-based team of experienced investigators, who invite the public to join them, as they investigate the history of strange occurrences reported at some of the UK’s most haunted locations and more importantly, at a reasonable price.

With a team of 16 experienced staff members, we are qualified to a high standard, including Officers covering Health and Safety, First Aid and Fire Safety.

What is the reason for your interest in the paranormal?

Personally to find proof of life after death, but like everyone, watching paranormal programs and films has peaked our interest and made us want to find out for ourselves.

How long have you been doing this?

The UKSS started back in 2007. Steve and I actively started to investigate the Paranormal and Spiritual field back in 2005 but collectively we have over 30 years experience within the Team.

Where are your located?

Tameside in Greater Manchester UK

Our readers would love to hear you share a key experience.

One such venue, the Roe Cross Inn in Mottram-In-Longdendale, where we had glasses being thrown. Until a census was found and we discovered that there was a landlord missing from the list of tenants mentioned on a plaque in the pub. We had picked up on a name previously and this name matched. After that, no more poltergeist activity happened, but there other things still happening there.

In your opinion what is the hot-spot of your region?

This is a very hard question to answer as any venue can be a hot-spot at any given time, but our favourite’s are Hyde Town Hall, Knottingley Town Hall and Morecambe Winter Gardens as there is always something happening.

High-Tech Angels?

This is in from the clairvoyant Nina of Norway, sharing some stories about angels using modern technology.

Something I have frequently heard from friends and family is how angels contacted them, not by means of direct visit but by use of modern tools like cell phones, computers and The Internet, this made me wonder are some angels more tech-savvy than others, and have they taken advantage of the new possibilities that our more technological life opens up for them.

Back before computers became common many of my relatives talked how they seemingly had gotten mysterious messages in the form of phone calls warning them about coming events or that they needed to check on the baby in order to prevent it from ending up as another crib-death.

A few years ago one of my best friends Anne-Lise described what she was 100% sure was an angel that had chatted with her online, and that this mysterious stranger even told her it was indeed a angel and it just wanted to help her out. Answering informing about her medical health, and what needed to be done in order to save her.

About 9 months ago while working on a story for this very blog, something mysterious happened to me too, someone I had never seen, heard or had on my friends-list in Facebook suddenly requested to add me with a short message that the paranormal corner group had disappeared, at this point there was another Facebook group by the name of Paranormal Corner, and behold the paranormal corner group that I also was a member in had suddenly and unexpectedly with all of its thousands of members gone missing.

I checked around and after a few hours I decided to make a new group called Paranormal Corner, and made the mysterious stranger also a administrator since he seemed very interested and helped me get started. Then just as mysteriously as he had appeared he was gone, and it made me think again. Do angels sometimes take use of our own technology in order to help us out in small or large ways?

Haunting at the 147th Gettysburg reenactment

This one is from Matt

When I was back in Gettysburg for the 147th Gettysburg reenactment my dad and I went out to the real battlefields south of the town. As we walked down cemetery ridge towards the Pennsylvania volunteers monument to make a video I thought I saw a group of confederate reenactors charging towards the angle  as we walked. Thinking they were just reenactors I took out my camera to take a picture but when I looked back they were gone. In the two seconds it took to get my camera out, they were nowhere to be seen. I was already shooting the video. 

When we went to the angle I asked some of the nearby tourist if they saw a small group of confederates charging the wall. They all said no. When I played the video back, I could hear this group of confederates charging but could not see any of the group. Right then I knew I had seen something paranormal and it still lingers in my mind about who's regiment and who's division they were with.

I guess I always knew of paranormal activity at the Gettysburg battlefield because of all the accounts one hears of such things going on there and around the town itself However, I never went out looking for anything like that at all. So I also wonder why was I the person to experience any paranormal activity at all. Why did this group of confederates choose me to see this and to experience this.

What is Paranormal?

We all hear and see so much today about the paranormal. I have found that a lot of folks get confused about what actually is and is not paranormal. I decided to do a entry about the term paranormal to hopefully help clear that situation for anyone who may get the definition confused.

The definition of paranormal is simply ... A experience that can not be explained by logic or by science. The paranormal comes in many different forms. There is Remote Viewing, Extra Sensory Perception (ESP), UFO's, Aliens, Ultraterrestrials, Telekinesis, Reincarnations, Ghosts, Precognition, Demons and Angels only to name a few.

Ghosts
A ghost is a spirit or apparition, a dead person or animal, that can manifest it self to the living for what ever reason is feels it needs to do so.

Remote Viewing
Remote viewing is when one has the psychic ability to get information about a  person or object that is far away and cannot be seen from where one is at the time of that viewing.

Precognition
Precognition is basically when one has foreknowledge of an event.

Extra Sensory  Perception  (ESP)
ESP is being able to perceive  information about things, places, people, events, without using normal senses to do so.

So, there you go. People all over this world claim to have had one or more of these situations happen to them. They do happen. I have had my own experiences with a few of them myself. the thing about them is They are for real but we can not explain them through science or logic. That makes all these PARANORMAL. We know what happens however, we don't know why or exactly what makes any of these situations happen.

There are many more events that are considered paranormal. However, in the interest of time I will save them for a later blog entries. Many events are at first considered to be paranormal later to be debunked, and be considered to be perinormal or determined to be a real phenomena, one example of this is EMF (Electromagnetic Field) which for a long time was not acknowledged to be a real phenomena at all by science.

Perinormal Phenomena

Today let us examine the term Perinormal Phenomena. Perinormal comes from the words Peri meaning near and normal (near-normal). Basically, the term Perinormal Phenomena means it is something that comes up in an investigation that at first cannot be explained by science or logic by the investigators. Therefore that event, may be it a sound or a shadow or whatever, is labeled paranormal.

For instance, a very high electromagnetic field reading (EMF) may at first be considered paranormal. However, once the investigators have the electric system looked at by a licensed electric company employee, they can then tell that there is a logical reason for the high EMF reading and at that point it then becomes Perinormal and not paranormal.

A strange sound may seem paranormal at first and sometimes it indeed can be paranormal but there are times when the investigators by reviewing the evidence will be able to find the source for that strange sound and at that point that sound becomes Perinormal instead of paranormal.

So during a so called haunting, allot of things are labeled paranormal at first. However in doing the evidence review and other test, sometimes some things considered paranormal often become Perinormal. Another example experienced by a lady named Eva, later proved to be Perinormal (see Angel Feathers).

Paranormal Phenomena: Poltergeist

Some reported poltergeist activities has been known to cause pianos to play random tones. But only occurred when the teen-aged daughter was home.

If you were to look up the meaning of the word poltergeist in any paranormal glossary, you would find that the term in German means a noisy spirit. I never understood why that meaning was given to the word because, a poltergeist is not really a spirit or a haunting at all, even though it is considered to be paranormal.

Poltergeist activity is usually brought on by a persons ones own mind, caused under stress of some sort such as fear, anger, or, a strong feeling of helplessness. Not every person will have the experience. As a matter of fact, it happens to very few people. Although, for a person who does indeed have these experiences, they usually have them more then once in their life time. A poltergeist experience can make light bulbs explode, noisy knocking sounds, make electrical equipment malfunction and, make objects move or levitate without anyone being near the object.

I went all through Jr. and Sr. high school with a girl who when she became very stressed out, has actually made every light bulb in the room she was in burst and, also, made the radio beside her bed come on.

That sort of experience is very real for some people. The bad part of that is, people who do have a poltergeist experience, have no control over it. It happens when it happens and cannot be controlled and happens to female teenagers more so then to males. It has been debated though if the poltergeist phenomena is because of spirits harnessing the energy from emotionally teens or if the teens themselves have telekinetic abilities without knowing about it.

For instance this happened a few times to my mom, as described in When Your Energy Make Objects Fall and sometimes the cause is of someone in emotional stress as in this entry called Telekinesis and Poltergeist Activity. More about how the poltergeist phenomena might work is explained in the entry about Electromagnetic psychokinesis.

Paranormal Phenomena: Phantomania

Phantomania is a paranormal phenomena very similar to what is referred to as sleep paralysis. But unlike regular Sleep Paralysis which I wrote about in Sleep Paralysis and False Awakening, which has a mundane cause, Phantomania is when there is a supernatural and paranormal cause to the paralysis, another name for Phantomania is Psychic Paralysis.

Phantomania basically feels the same as Sleep Paralysis, but are often accompanied by scratches, bruises on the body of the one trapped during the paralysis, an experience that seem to fit the typical experience of Phantomania, this one An Evil Spirit, which was experienced by my friend Gary. I have myself experienced both Sleep paralysis and Phantomania, in my own experience I would be pinned down with problems breathing, though I never lost control and could at any point break loose from the Phantomania by either concentrating on breaking the paralysis or by slipping out of my own body in the form of astral projection as described in my entry called Projection of the Soul - Astral Travel.

Either way the results would always be the same, as soon as I broke the paralysis when I get back out of the bed I would find mysterious scratches and bruises on my body that was totally impossible to make myself due to the angle and shape of the scratches, the only difference when astral projecting first was that one would notice shadow like paranormal entity leaving in the blink of an instant. When i wake up by concentration everything would seem normal until one look in the mirror of ones back.

Not all ghosts and spirits has the ability to do phantomania, and it is sometimes seen in cases of the demonic. In Hawaii they have stories of they refer to as the chocking ghost which is very similar to the mara (demon witch) and sleep paralysis.
