Abundance

Back in February of 2011 we were struggling and I happened to look at some magical and meditation candles in one of the local health food and alternative life style stores here in Honolulu Hawaii, we looked at a few of the candles they had, which promised to bring abundance, good fortune, money, tranquility and many other forms, these chakra candles had vivid colors and a pleasant scent so we decided to buy one of them and give it a shot.

This was on Saturday the 26th of February 2011 and we decided to go for a well scented indigo blue abundance candle, as we got home I quickly unwrapped the candle and placed it in a appropriate candle glass for burning, as the candle burned it filled our apartment with a pleasant scent and it also seemed to change the atmosphere on a deeper level, some would call this to align the flow of the internal and external cosmos, or in some ways fine tune your synchronicity.

After a half hour it was burning vividly and I decided to start working more on The Paranormal Corner blog, having it burning on the table behind me. as I moved on to the analytic blog tool I noticed there was a spike in visit numbers that had started to build up within the last 5 minutes, I watched and browsed trough the menus and found that the spike in visits was for a story about The most haunted hotel in Chicago, The Congress Plaza hotel, which we had posted a few months earlier with very few reader. As the candle continued burning for the next few hours I could follow a steady flow of visitors to the story on the Congress Plaza hotel.

Now this could just been pure coincidence but still no other story has so far been as successful as this one and its abundance of traffic from search engines all over the world is still growing, pulling more than a few thousand readers a month alone from search word hits.

Synchronicity and Unsynchronicity

Synchronicity is defined as two or more unrelated events that seemingly seem to be connected or end up connected in a unexplainable way.

Like so much else synchronicity and unsynchronicity range from the normal non-paranormal coincidental events of bad and good luck and circumstantial oddities of statistical probabilities. What put synchronicity into the field of paranormality is when it is combined with a strong feeling of fate and a faith that there is something more going on. In those respects is it similar to coincidences which on their own does not carry with them a paranormal element as described in the entry called Coincidences, Umberellas and Cars, and the entries of unlucky numbers like 13 Myth or Reality? and Curses, Evil Eyes, Hexes and Jinxes which deals more towards unsynchonicity, another example that could be described as an example of synchronicity is in the entry Abundance, where a chakra candle was used to change the synchronicity. All it is all part of the same cosmic flow of energy of the external and internal consciousness.

In my own life I have had the feeling of something being synchronized and that this is the time to act upon this as the window of opportunity is there and one could then fortieth it or jump on it, luckily I have always been blessed with being on the better side of synchronicity, and even in times when one feel like one is trapped out of ones synchronicity one would know where to head in order to get back into the positive side of things, similar to how omens (Omens in a Coffee Cup) could work as the type of warning to avoid or at least limit the impact of a bad upcoming streak of unsynchronicity.

If one looks at the possibilities for positive and negative events that could affect your life at any moment of time, you will have a high probability of nothing major to happen either way, and some possibility of more rare things and also an extremely small probability of extraordinary things to happen to you, this is where synchronicity comes in as it deals with adjusting the probability by notifying you that something is about to happen, and if you do things right or wrong it would be a turning point in that instant of time. May this be winning a big lottery by feeling inspired to use a special non-random number like ones phone number or avoid an early demise from a freak accident by ducking down at that very instant due to an inner feeling or such.

In some aspects synchronicity is one of the few phenomenas where anybody can greatly influence their own synchronicity, each and every time one do anything this triggers a new wave of synchronic ripples that cascades and reechoes touching and rippling the synchronicity of others. When I think about it astrology probably follow much of the same pattern of thought as the modern term Synchronicity describe, only in astrology one is using the spheres of the stars in the Kodiak, the Moon and the planets to tune in to your personal synchronicity or if you want your personal karma, destiny or opportunity.

Salt: Mineral, Preservative, Religious Symbol and Spiritual Protector

Illustration PJ 2011, Salt, upper left Black Hunza Stone Salt, upper right Hawaiian Sea Salt, lower left refined modern tablet salt and lower right Pink Himalayan Salt.

Few elements have had a longer importance in human cultures as regular table salt, both mined stone salt and sea salt has been the prime tool for preserving foods and adding flavor even long before recorded history. Salt also played an important role in many religions and faiths, it was considered one of the prime elements in the European medieval alchemy and therefore essential for the making of the philosophers stone. In Christianity salt is also a religious symbol. Salt is a symbol of the sanctity of Jesus, as a preserving value of his sanctity and, protection it is used to make holy water and also the more powerful exorcised water in the Roman Catholic Church. Salt is also used to make protective circles like described in My First Exorcism by Rev. Alaina Damewood

Salt as a sign of bad omens. According to some recollections salt was spilled by Judas Iscariot at the last supper, and since then is seen as a sign of omen and bad luck. If you spilled salt you could avert your bad luck by tossing a pinch of salt over your left shoulder, which was thought to be the devils side. By doing this one would advert any evils that the devils lurking at your left side had in store for you.

In many pagan rituals salt was also important, it is used in magical spells, cleansing rituals, charms and concoctions, and already in ancient Pre-christian Rome salt were a symbol of friendship and spilling of salt, a symbol of ill luck. Later with Christianity a deep faith and salt as a symbol of Jesus, one assumed incorrectly that the pagan witch sabbath everything was salt free. In fact this is a blurring of the terms for witches and demon witches, while a witch is still fully human and not affected by salt,  a demon witch (hag) has started to lose their humanity is such ways that salt would affect and ward them off just like it could ward of full demons.

In Norse mythology they thought that the gods came from a salty ice-block as the cow, Auðumbla brought  Búri the first god in Norse mythology, grandfather of Odin, out of the salty ice block over the course of four days. In general, other than its role as part of Norse creation myths salt had little importance other than a tool used to preserve and condition foods, though later Christianity brought in a lot of their beliefs in salt.

In Hawaii and Samoa sea salt is used for protection both by placing salt in each of the four corners of the house and by poring salt on the door threshold to prevent any spirits from crossing into ones home.

13th Myth or Reality?

Photo PJ 2010

I have always been skeptical to the alleged unluckiness' of Friday the 13th day and of the number in general, I have never myself experienced any mishaps happening on Friday the 13th, and I have yet to meet anyone whom have actually been able to tell me a story that would prove it to be so, still fear of the number 13 or Triskaidekaphobia is one a fairly common phobias, btw the phobia for Friday the 13th is called paraskevidekatriaphobia.

On the other hand if something ever where to happen on Friday the 13th I would remember it just because of the very nature of the superstition, I have had a few accidents happen in my life on other days, but neither one of these I remember the date, or even what day of the week it was. Unless it happened on a day special to me.

I have some friends back in Norway that believed fully in the dangers of Friday the 13th, and would do whatever they could to avoid doing anything that might put them in danger, even staying away from work, and make sure they would not need to go to the store. When I think about it these were also the same that build their whole day around newspaper horoscopes, which I would put it being a bit extreme superstitious since those horoscopes in general are too generic to be of any real use.

I found it interesting when I realized that in some countries, like in the US they even removed the 13th floor out of buildings and when I realized that planes miss the 13th row, in order to avoid scaring those with the real phobia of the number. Still, in Hawaii some buildings do actually have a 13th floor.

What my friends really do for Friday the 13th is take advantage of it  Since they found it they could get much cheaper tickets, on almost empty planes this day. So far they have only shared the great luck and advantages they had from this day, I would love to hear examples of 13th related accidents or mishaps though.

There is no doubt that one could have bad luck on Friday the 13th, since the mass psychology of it changes a large number of peoples behavior, and some might even end up in the very accidents they might try to avoid because they are too afraid of making mistakes. So keep yourself safe, as you should on any other day of the year.

June 2008 - The Shining - Book of Luck

Photo of The Shining by PJ 2011

I just got this e-mailed to me from Sarah in Boston, Massachusetts, after reading the story about the possessed role play game book, she felt compelled to share her own book related experience with us.

This happened to me back in 2008, because my mother was too ill to work and my salary was not enough to pay everything for both of us we were $400 short to pay our monthly rent. I felt depressed, but since I have always loved books, I thought maybe it would cheer me up some by walking over to the second-hand bookstore across the street from our apartment. While I was checking out a shelf I felt drawn to a book that looked brand new, it was protected by a plastic wrapping, but the style was older, it was a book I already knew well, The Shining by Stephen King, who happens to be one of my favorite authors.

When I examined it closer I noticed it said, "A new novel by the author of CARRIE and 'SALEM'S LOT" which got me thinking excitingly, hey that cannot be TRUE, this is NOT a NEW novel, AND the cover is different on than The Shining that I READ before. I could not find any pricing on the book so I decided to ask how much it was, to my surprise, the young clerk told me that he would sell it to me for $10, just what I had on me at the moment. So I seized the moment and bought the since I had a suspicion that this might be a first edition book, still unopened and in mint condition.

When I got home I checked it out and got it confirmed that this was really a first edition of "The Shining" from 1977 the very same year that I was born, I did not hesitate and placed it up on e-bay for online auction, I was overwhelmed by happiness when the auction ended at $501, enough to cover the rest of my rent and have some left to take care of my mother. Soon I was contacted about a new better paid job, and I truly believe that all these sudden events of luck came with the book as an answer to our prayers.
