Synchronicity and Unsynchronicity

Synchronicity is defined as two or more unrelated events that seemingly seem to be connected or end up connected in a unexplainable way.

Like so much else synchronicity and unsynchronicity range from the normal non-paranormal coincidental events of bad and good luck and circumstantial oddities of statistical probabilities. What put synchronicity into the field of paranormality is when it is combined with a strong feeling of fate and a faith that there is something more going on. In those respects is it similar to coincidences which on their own does not carry with them a paranormal element as described in the entry called Coincidences, Umberellas and Cars, and the entries of unlucky numbers like 13 Myth or Reality? and Curses, Evil Eyes, Hexes and Jinxes which deals more towards unsynchonicity, another example that could be described as an example of synchronicity is in the entry Abundance, where a chakra candle was used to change the synchronicity. All it is all part of the same cosmic flow of energy of the external and internal consciousness.

In my own life I have had the feeling of something being synchronized and that this is the time to act upon this as the window of opportunity is there and one could then fortieth it or jump on it, luckily I have always been blessed with being on the better side of synchronicity, and even in times when one feel like one is trapped out of ones synchronicity one would know where to head in order to get back into the positive side of things, similar to how omens (Omens in a Coffee Cup) could work as the type of warning to avoid or at least limit the impact of a bad upcoming streak of unsynchronicity.

If one looks at the possibilities for positive and negative events that could affect your life at any moment of time, you will have a high probability of nothing major to happen either way, and some possibility of more rare things and also an extremely small probability of extraordinary things to happen to you, this is where synchronicity comes in as it deals with adjusting the probability by notifying you that something is about to happen, and if you do things right or wrong it would be a turning point in that instant of time. May this be winning a big lottery by feeling inspired to use a special non-random number like ones phone number or avoid an early demise from a freak accident by ducking down at that very instant due to an inner feeling or such.

In some aspects synchronicity is one of the few phenomenas where anybody can greatly influence their own synchronicity, each and every time one do anything this triggers a new wave of synchronic ripples that cascades and reechoes touching and rippling the synchronicity of others. When I think about it astrology probably follow much of the same pattern of thought as the modern term Synchronicity describe, only in astrology one is using the spheres of the stars in the Kodiak, the Moon and the planets to tune in to your personal synchronicity or if you want your personal karma, destiny or opportunity.

Salt: Mineral, Preservative, Religious Symbol and Spiritual Protector

Few elements have had a longer importance in human cultures as regular table salt, both mined stone salt and sea salt has been the prime tool for preserving foods and adding flavor even long before recorded history. Salt also played an important role in many religions and faiths, it was considered one of the prime elements in the European medieval alchemy and therefore essential for the making of the philosophers stone. In Christianity salt is also a religious symbol. Salt is a symbol of the sanctity of Jesus, as a preserving value of his sanctity and, protection it is used to make holy water and also the more powerful exorcised water in the Roman Catholic Church. Salt is also used to make protective circles like described in My First Exorcism by Rev. Alaina Damewood. 

Salt as a sign of bad omens. According to some recollections salt was spilled by Judas Iscariot at the last supper, and since then is seen as a sign of omen and bad luck. If you spilled salt you could avert your bad luck by tossing a pinch of salt over your left shoulder, which was thought to be the devils side. By doing this one would advert any evils that the devils lurking at your left side had in store for you.

In many pagan rituals salt was also important, it is used in magical spells, cleansing rituals, charms and concoctions, and already in ancient Pre-christian Rome salt were a symbol of friendship and spilling of salt, a symbol of ill luck. Later with Christianity a deep faith and salt as a symbol of Jesus, one assumed incorrectly that the pagan witch sabbath everything was salt free. In fact this is a blurring of the terms for witches and demon witches, while a witch is still fully human and not affected by salt,  a demon witch (hag) has started to lose their humanity is such ways that salt would affect and ward them off just like it could ward of full demons.

In Norse mythology they thought that the gods came from a salty ice-block as the cow, Auðumbla brought  Búri the first god in Norse mythology, grandfather of Odin, out of the salty ice block over the course of four days. In general, other than its role as part of Norse creation myths salt had little importance other than a tool used to preserve and condition foods, though later Christianity brought in a lot of their beliefs in salt.

In Hawaii and Samoa sea salt is used for protection both by placing salt in each of the four corners of the house and by poring salt on the door threshold to prevent any spirits from crossing into ones home.

Ganding - The Evil Curse From Northern Norway

Even today in the northern part of Norway there are Sami, and Norwegians that use Norwegian form of cursing someone called Ganding, both Vikings and Sami where known to be no strangers to use of ganding, though with Christianity and the notoriously ferocious witch-hunts that hit Northern Norway more than most of Europe, most of these malicious forms of black magic and even more so the use of healing was stomped out during the which trails of the1600th and 1700th centuries, of which estimates places to about 21% accounted to ganding, with 4% diabolism and the remaining 76% use of healing magic, herbs or other mysterious practices which still survived fairly intact in the Sami population.

Most people have streaks of both good and evil, and my father was at times filled with meanness, often followed with him swearing and at times he performed gand. More often than most the targets of the ganding would be the neighbors that had happened to trigger his nerves with some usually trivial stuff followed by having them placed in gand, he was even proud of it and at times bragged that he had put many down from their high horse after getting struck with a series of bad luck after he placed them in gand.

My father also told the stories how his uncle once placed someone in a catatonic stage for 10 years using a gand, which very specifically worded that the target would be unable to speak or move until 10 years had passed, and that this was just one of the cases of ganding that his family could do. Though frankly I never believed there to be much credence in these accounts back when I was growing up.

My mother believed herself to be one of those struck with one of the more potent of my fathers gands after she left him a few years back after a few decades of marriage, and she asked me to use my faith in Jesus Christ to help her break the evil curse that she felt had been ruining her life and put her in the deepest despair, both financially, with no work and series of mysterious sicknesses that the doctors could do nothing about. Needless to say I did what I could and the gand seemed to be broken, and things are still improving in all parts of her life.

Curses, Evil Eyes, Hexes and Jinxes

I think as long as there has been people on this Earth there has been curses, to my knowledge every culture have them, and even our modern society still at least in part still warn us about the taboos (like in Samoan Curfew, and The Sacred Power of the Ti leaf) that might cause your luck to turn badly. Which is why I would like to bring a few examples of well known curses and forms of bad luck.

The closest to an attempted curse must have been back a few years ago when a homeless person totally at random stopped me at the street and gave one erie statement, that he would see me three more times, and the third time I would be decapitated, being a psychic I found that an odd statement to make, but who knows what goes on in a crazy persons mind, still it does make you stop and think.

The Evil Eye, the most well known to be using the evil eye are the gypsies, how much of this is actually real and how much is more the cloak of superstition and fear among those that were not gypsies themselves I do not know, still the effect seems to be as real as any, many people all over the world still fear for getting handled the evil eye from strangers that they might have insulted. Also it is common in several of the Mediterranean countries (Italy, Greece and Turkey) to wear charms and talismans to ward of the Evil Eye. Another One good example of the evil eye would be the story that was shared with us back a few months ago called Never Be Mean To A Stranger.

A Hex is more direct use of spells (or witchcraft) rather than just evil will to do harm as ganding is powered by or the supposed powers of the evil eye. In a hex one often using ritualistic magic in order to do harm, objects like in the hexes in voodoo mixing both religious, and magical aspects for the purpose of placing a hex on someone. In Attacked by Black Magic I describe how my family and I were hexed, and then broke this using reversal prayers and binding to repel the evil. 

Ganding is a type of malicious hexes that is well known in Northern Norway, especially among The Sami people (indigenous norwegians). Basically this involves someone reading a curse over someone handing the equivalent of the evil eye, making them followed with bad luck usually in the form of a disease. My father was one to frequently putting ganding on those he did not like, but I was never sure how much of the neighbors bad luck was just coincidental and how much could actually have been bad luck from this type of curse. Though my Mother did believe she was put under ganding after she left him. Ganding is in many ways the directly opposite the norwegian type of healing called lœsing (blood-stopping) which my mother does.

Jinxes are more random strains of bad luck that may be caused by ones own ill-doing, may this be angering nature as something causes the curse one example of this is the Hawaiian and Icelandic Lava Rock Curses, or the negative energies attached of some numbers like described in the entry 13th Myth or Reality?, I think we have all experienced times where one feel jinxed, where things keep piling up as fate brings more troubles in your path.

In Norway we have a saying, "En ulykke kommer sjelden alene" (directly translated this means An accident is seldom arriving alone) basically meaning the same as "Misery loves company". The common rule is one would expect to see three cases of strikingly bad luck in a row and usually within the same day.

So to conclude keep yourself safe and do your best to avoid yourself to become the subject of a curse, or a random jinx.

The Curse of the Lava Rocks

I think it is safe to assume that, most people that have ever been to the garden state of Hawaii has some knowledge of the legend of the lava rocks. For those  who are not aware of this legend, I will explain it to you in as much detail as I can.

In Hawaiian mythology one have a Fire Goddess that is the creator of volcanoes. She protects the volcano islands of Hawaii and the lava rocks that came from volcanoes on all islands of the state. Her name is Pele. As legend has it, if you take a lava rock out of Hawaii, Pele becomes angered and you will have bad luck in your life until the rock is returned to it's rightful place. It is also illegal to take lava rocks away from the islands.

I have a friend who, was hiking on the big Island with his Mother and I. His auntie lived in California. She thought Hawaii was so beautiful she wished she could take a little bit of Hawaii home with her and she did just that. she packed one of the lava rocks and took it home with her. She did not know about the legend so she thought nothing at all about taking the rock home to California. Once she got home, her bad luck started. She lost her job, her car was stolen, her rent was increased and she became ill. All with in two weeks of being home. She called her sister and as they were talking about things her sister asked her if she might have taken a lava rock back home with her. When she said yes, she did take one home, her sister told her to mail it back to her at once and she explained the legend to her.

Now, she did as her sister had asked and mailed the rock back to her in Hawaii.

Once the rock arrived here it was taken and put back where it was taken from. My friend's Auntie started to have good luck again almost right away. Her illness was gone, she found a great job and, she was able to find a nice place at lower rent then what she was paying. Also, within a week after the rock was returned, she met the man that would become her husband. So if you go to Hawaii, go ahead and admire it's beauty and have a great time. Just leave the lava rocks here where they belong. I also found out that Hawaii is not the only place where taking volcanic rocks are supposed to bring you bad luck, the Island of Iceland in Europe has the same happen to them though they do not have a volcano goddess as in Hawaii they have a belief that the land itself would curse you, it is also illegal to take rocks from Iceland just like in Hawaii too.
