Why do I believe in Saint Francis? By Reverend Alaina Damewood

For years I questioned myths about saints , angles and animals have always intrigued me but I used to think they where all just myths . Until I started experience my own divine in counter about 6 years ago. It started as a normal day after getting out of a long day of doing ministry work at a local college some of my friends asked me to go with them to the store and out to eat. We went to a local store to pick up some things for their work as well as I went there to come up with things to get to actives for the kids at the colledge .

After getting out of the store we decided to walk to the other end of the shopping center to grab food before the friend who had been driving us dropped all of our friends back to where we needed to go to. We started walking when my friends Shawn and Adam stated : Alaina that bird is following you . I told them just to keep walking and maybe it would go away , so we continued to walk down to the place to grab food , as the bird kept walking behind me. We got to the door of the place we where going to eat at and the bird was still behind my feet .

Shawn turned to me and stated Alaina what are you going to do about that bird? I said I will take care of it I turned and looked to the animal and stated Saint Francis of Assisi you can not come into the eating place with us while your in a birds body . The bird started acting like a normal bird and then became afraid of me like a normal animal and flew off. I questioned to my self was that really Francis as I went inside the restraint to join my friends . After we got out all of us walked back up to the other end of the parking a lot and got into my friends car to be dropped off . I asked Shawn to take me back home first since I was the closets one in the area then take our other friends back . So Shawn agreed to drive me back first. The second we pulled up into the drive away to where I lived , another bird of the same type flew down off a tree and sat right on the top of Shawn's car. Then I turned and looked at Shawn with his face being in panic and I said what is wrong he said my car will not start . The bird flew off his car as I turned and said thanks Francis for the warning . This was my first experience feeling like the saint of animals was watching my back.

The second event occurred up in Huntington WV where I had went with another friend to get his girls so they could come down and stay a few days with spending time with my kids. We where over at a store and a bird was following his car . Then I turned and looked at my friend saying I think we need to pull over . My friend asked why , I turned looked at my friend and said I just have a feeling something is getting ready to happen. So we pulled over then he receive a phone call saying his girls where not going to make it down because there had been a family emergency . My friend turned and looked at me and said how did you know . I said the little bird who was following us since our last stop did not leave and keep flying beside us . Then my friend who was a devoted roman right catholic turned around and said are you familiar with saint Francis the saint of animals ? I said yes and I believe he was the one warning us about your girls. My friend looked smiled and said Alaina I guess the legends about him are true . I smiled and said I like to think so.

This is the reason I believe in saint Francis and other saints because ever time when I think he is not watching I have another bird or other animal does something to warn me about events . I also like to think all the other myths about , angles , saints are real to some degree to . Because every time something happens to me . I question who is going to help me now and it makes we wonder what else is real that we do not pay attention to because of people saying they are just myths.

Animals Ability to Sense Paranormal Activity

Photo by PJ 2009 Cattle Farmland on the isle of Hawaii

Most animals have senses that are much more keen than our own human senses, and many of them have senses that humans do not even have. It is well known that many animals know when there is something paranormal with them, from a common house cat hissing or following something unseen passing trough the room. Dogs, horses, birds and I am sure a lot of other animals also have the ability to sense things that most humans never would. I have myself watched as my cat respond to what would been a spectral hand trying to pet it's back making her crunching down and move away.

Cats
Felines are well known for senses among these a superb hearing, excellent sense of smell, known electromagnetic sensory abilities, low light vision which probably makes them able to see things even in regular light that we never would. When we surveyed our house for electromagnetic fields (EMF), we found out that the cats preferred to sleep in all the hot spots and all the cold spots in the electromagnetic field much as they love to bask in the sun or sleep close to a warm oven in the winter they also seemed to pick their sleeping areas according to the EMF, EMF is known to spike up with paranormal activity though consistent EMF fields are associated with our electronics, wirings and water pipes, proving that at least cats have the ability to directly sense EMF.

Dogs
Canines are also well known for a multitude of great senses from their superb sense of smelling, possible electromagnetic sensory abilities and a superb sense of hearing, several polynesians that I know claim that the wetness of a dogs eye make them able to see ghosts and if a human ever would wet their eyes with the dogs eye wetness they too could see what the dogs do.

Birds
Avians have very strong electromagnetic sensory ability as this is part of their natural navigation, using earths own magnetic fields as a form of GPS, birds also have a wider field of perception in the form being able to see in the ultra violet spectrum of light, which humans and most other animals do not have, many of them also have a excellent sense of smell.

Horses
Equines are naturally skittish and often refuse to cross into areas that have high EMF fields, they have superb senses in hearing and smell, but have a limited sight in low light making them even more dependent on using their other senses.

Cows
Bovines are smart herd animals and since I grew up on a farm I always had plenty of opportunity to notice how the cattle handled the paranormal, being a sensitive myself I would already know if I had sensed something and the cows, though mostly seems to ignore things of the paranormal definitely know it is there, and they act protectively of their herd if they feel the entity is harmful or evil. I always felt very safe with the cows around me since they would quickly ward off any evils as a herd, circling around those they want to protect and chase away anything evil.

I am sure all animals exhibits some senses capable of noticing the paranormal and if you have any examples of animals that I did not include in my entry that you would like to share with the blog feel free to contact us at waikikiblogboi@gmail.com

Cherokee Screech Owls

Screech Owl Feather

I have a friend that lives in my building. One night he and I were talking outside and he told me about experiences he has had with screech owls. Now, my friend is two thirds Cherokee and the Cherokee legend says that they believe that the screech owl acts as a consultant to keep them in line and that a screech owl could also bring on sickness as a punishment. Also the some Cherokee women would bathe their children's eye in water with owl feathers in it because they thought it would help the child stay awake.

In my friends case he would at times see screech owls and. He told me that the owl would speak to him but that he could not understand what it was saying and also, that he would respond in a language that he didn't understand either.

The one thing that he did understand and know for sure was, Every time he would see a screech owl and would speak that strange language with it, someone he was close to would die within a few days. He told me that a screech owl had made it's home in a large bird house that his son built in the back yard. The owl only stayed in the bird house for about a week but the one night the owl was screeching very loud and my friend went into his strange language mode and then the owl was gone.

Two days later my friend's wife was talking to her mother on the phone and all seemed well. However, during their phone conversation, my friend's wife's mother died. she never said anything about feeling ill at all. She just died while talking on the phone. Since his mother-in-law was a very healthy women and not over sixty years old an autopsy was performed and the report came back as cause of death undetermined.

Another time he saw a screech owl and in a few days his best friend died. Yet another time three days after he saw and heard another screech owl, his cousin died a very fast and unexpected death. My friends cousin was laughing at a joke that was just told and he very simply dropped dead.

Believe me when I say to you that when my friend sees a screech owl, he becomes very worried about himself and his loved ones. Even though there are a few cultures that consider the screech owl to be a good omen or a protector  of fertilely and power. My friend only sees sadness and death when he sees and hears one.

Animal Affinity

Photo by PJ, Honolulu, Hawaii 2005

This is from PJ in Honolulu, Hawaii,
I do not know what makes some seem to have a natural talent with animals, or as I like to put it, animal affinity, perhaps animals sense something beyond our normal human ones, the one thing I do know is that I have always had a way with animals of every kind, they seem to instantly trust me both wild and tame alike. Something very similar to this is Animal Links. Social Affinity or Empathy is also similar but instead deal with humans social interactions.

Like when I was about seven years old I remember my parents had been struggling for a good while with one of our young extremely stubborn cows, she refused to move in any way and it did not matter how much my mother and father pleaded, tried to scare her, pushed, prodded or pulled, she would not budge one single inch. Then when they had a break before getting ready to try again I went ahead, grabbed a handful of green leaves and held it in front of her, her eyes lit up, peaked with interest of what I might have in my hand, as I moved backwards she followed willingly into the fenced area.

This ability has made it possible for me to experience wild animals up close, like when I was visiting my grandmother back in Norway and a fox spiked by curiosity came all the way up to me and I knew it was not going to do any harm. In Hawaii I experienced the extremely skittish mongooses curiously stopping by to check out my shoes while walking home, and I was just keeping my normal walking pace, just stopping when the mongoose came up right in front of me.
Since I did not have my camera with me that
day provided this mongoose photo from

No later than two days ago I had the opportunity to relocate a gecko that had found its way into our 8th floor apartment, usually geckos are quite skittish, and when my room mate had tried to catch it earlier it was running around like crazy, the gecko had settled on-top of a note-wheel as I approached it it did not budge so I went ahead picked up the note-wheel, placed it outside our room door on the floor and told it to wait there until i got my shoes on and was ready to carry it out, closed the door and returned a few minutes later and it was still there on-top of the note wheel, I picked it gently up and it kept a keen eye on me as i carried into the elevator and down outside into the grass.

Coincidences - Umbrellas and Cars

Thank you Petter, for this entry. The nature of coincidences and for the related phenomena of synchronicity is that they could be one of many just likely and unlikely outcomes in any given situation. By this fact one would be destined to experience a few totally unlikely outcomes in a few cases in ones lifetime while most outcomes are mundane and will be quickly forgotten, the rare, bizarre and mind-boggling ones would always be remembered and if fantastic enough spread like a viral network, even possible growing into the realm of legends.

I will here mention a few coincidences that I have experienced, two of them minor and one which might have been the difference between life and death.

My first example of coincidences happened in 2002 one sunny calm summer day while walking to University in Tromsø, Norway I spotted a black umbrella sticking out of a bush, I picked it up and checked if it was in good condition by opening it, I found it to be in perfect condition, then while holding it up it started poring down rain, I completed my walk to the University and avoided getting soaked.

The second example I am sharing is also involving me walking to a university, but this time in Honolulu, Hawaii back in 2006, I had my umbrella with me, and even-though it was sunny and not a cloud on the sky I opened the umbrella and put it over my head, to my surprise some birds that I had not even noticed released their payloads of muck, not one but the whole flock, naturally I threw away the umbrella in the nearest garbage bin.

My third example is the most compelling not because it is unlikely but because it was a coincidence of life or death. This happened to me in January 2005, it was my very first week in Honolulu, Hawaii, and I was walking with Gary to a computer store to get a American power-cord for my laptop computer. There out of the blue a car with a male driver lost control in the traffic and turned straight in my direction of the sidewalk, on my left side was a sign and on my right side was a massive brick wall, The driver had a little baby in the front seat and it had taken away his attention from his driving making him crash right into the sign, pretty much making a wreck of both the car and the sign, leaving me totally untouched, just a slightly startled. One could call it a stroke of luck, divine intervention or coincidence, either way I was safe and the driver left in panic, some other people came over and asked if I was alright, and it took quite a while before Gary stopped shaking.

I have experienced countless other coincidences during my life, but I will not bore you with them all.
