The Haunted Furniture

In the house we rented while we were living in Tromsø, Norway,we had this one set of living room furniture, a Hutch, that radiated strange activity and all the photos here are of the actual furniture. We noticed the living room would always feel cold no matter how warm the house was or, how high we set the heat up, it always felt very cold in the living room. At times objects would come flying off the shelves of the hutch as we would walk by it.  The hutch would almost seem to toss objects at those passing by as if something with great force tried to literally toss and hit you with it. Many times items from the shelves would come crashing down onto the floor. To be honest, I hated even going into the living room.

later on when my brother stayed at the house, he too experienced the same things, items would move around on the shelves, items would come flying towards him and, it had this eerie coldness attached to it. One time my mother came over to visit and she stated that she felt like there was a young male spirit attached to the hutch, a young male driving a motorcycle. She didn't know why she felt that way but, she for some reason had a very strong feeling that somehow, that hutch was a haunted object and she felt it was haunted by a young motorcyclist.

I myself have seen the activity happen. Many times I would be working on the computer when I would hear a slamming sound and as I looked back toward the hutch, I saw where one of the doors slammed open. Once, it slammed open with such force that the door actually came off it's hinge.

The final display of force came on the day of moving out, my mother and brother had just finished emptying out everything from the hutch as my brother was close to it facing away, he heard it starting to make the creaking sounds again. As he glanced over to  the hutch, he watched the whole heavy piece of furniture falling towards him. Just in time he jumped out of its way only to watch it collapse down to the floor and splinter into a thousand pieces on the very spot he just had stood.


My mom and brother picked up all the pieces and as they were doing that, they found a photograph in the rubbish of what was left of this hutch. The photograph was of a young man who looked to be in his twenties, standing beside a motorcycle. They took the brass ornaments and kept them but burned the the smashed hutch outside. Upon returning to the house for the first time in years the living room felt warm, and my mother noticed the young male spirit entity was no longer felt in the house.

Sometime after my grandparents had passed away and the house was abandoned, our father received an urgent call from Old Arthur, a neighbor to the now old summer house. He reported seeing two people around the house, but they ran off before he had a chance to investigate, so he decided to let it go til morning. In the morning, when Arthur followed through with what he said. He found two sets of muddy footprints leading to the house and to a broken window, and more footprints inside the house. He also noticed a second set of footprints coming from another broken window. These were clearly showing sign of rapid  escape, so he called my father to check if anything was missing and broken. 

My father went to the house with one of my brothers, and Arthur joined them as they entered the house. As they walked into the living room, they saw how the intruders broke into the house from the large living room window and went into two directions, one set toward a two hundred year old fiddle hanging on the wall while, second set toward a different part of our living room where we kept a lot of ancient silverware. These two sets met in the middle of the living room, where we found the fiddle and our family heirloom silver bowls on the floor, and then both sets hastily toward the south side living room window and out. 

Two weeks later, two young men contacted us. They asked us if we were the owners of the home. They told us that ever since they had broken in our house, they have been plagued by haunting dreams, heinous nightmares. They felt that whatever still dwelt in our home was responsible. They pleaded us for forgiveness and offered to pay for any and all damages caused by them. We agreed and settled on not bringing any charges against them, as we felt they had learned their lesson. We never heard from or seen a sign of those guys again. Since then, nobody has ever broken in and entered in on our ancient family home. 

We will never know for sure what scared off the burglars in the way it did, but we have our own suspicions. Our house has always been very haunted, with our ancestral spirits protecting us, and even with us around when my grandparents were still living there, the spirits would show their power whenever they found a new guest to the home to be unwelcome or just kept for closer observation to assess whether they should be told to leave or not. 

Since that time, our family home has been sold twice. Each time the new owners complain of the house being haunted . Cold spots, hearing voices and, things moving from one place to another. So, my uncle bought the house back and it is now back in my family. I guess that is where it belongs. 

When People are Haunted Instead of Objects

In a personal haunting it might follow you where ever you go.

Some months ago I was involved in an investigation at a building that had been reported to have paranormal activity going on. The team I had just joined had entered the building and after checking in with security, we went up stairs to begin our investigation. We were interviewing one of the employees about the reported activity that happens in the area after closing.

This employee was telling us all about the strange noises she heard and how things wold move from one spot to another and of hearing a voice. The lady also said there was activity at her house and she was thinking that maybe her house had a spirit in it also. She was a genuine as they come and we could tell almost right from the start that she did indeed experience activity. She then left for the night, out went the lights and the investigation was underway.

After spending over 4 hours at this location and, not getting any real creditable evidence, we wrapped up our investigation and we were out of there. While the director of our team was going over all the video and recordings and so on, there was really nothing that we could say was paranormal. 

Because this employee could describe her experiences so clearly and so definitive, we all came to the conclusion that it was indeed the employee herself that was haunted and not the building. In other words, we believe that this entity has attached itself to her or followed her around and caused the activity where it wanted to as long as its host was there. Some people are a lot more sensitive to the spirit world then others and we thought that we had come in contact with a person that was indeed sensitive enough to attract spirits to her. To us, it could have only been that she indeed had a spirt follow her around or it could have even been attached to her. That is the only explanation that we could come up with in this case.

There has been many other cases of an entity or spirit attaching itself or following its host around. Usually this type of haunting is not dangerous however, at times it can be.

Residual Energy - Genius Loci - The Spirit of a Place

There are many types of hauntings, intelligent, poltergeist, spirits, demonic and then you have Residual Energy hauntings.

Genius Loci or The spirit of a place as it is also referred to could be looked upon as the residual energies of those that lived, still live, died and visited the place, each and one of them leaving some residual imprint that now and then repeat part of the things that happened there in the form of residual energy released in the form of a repetitive energy haunting, this is a non-intelligent residual energy haunting.

We create energy everyday. Our bodies give off energy. So residual energy is like an imprint of what we created. Every time you become happy, sad or feel fear, anger or, love you create an imprint of energy. A strong energy imprint can last for many many years and it seems to become recharged when similar events or emotional energy repeats itself in the place, like that of a married couple arguments or reenactments refuels the genius loci of the things that happened decades and centuries before.

If you hear a sound or, see a apparition or a shadow almost anything at the same time of day or night then you might be experiencing residual energy. Residual energy is stirred up by the living when we do or say something that has to do with  the reason the energy imprint was left in the first place. It is we the living that stir up residual energy.

To the best of my knowledge, residual energy cannot harm you because it is not intelligent. It is only activated by the people around it and, it can not communicate with the living. It has been said before that almost half of all hauntings,  are residual hauntings. Therefore, those  are not haunted at all. they are simply left over energy from a person or an event that a person went through.

That person could indeed be dead but that person who left that energy imprint could very well still be alive. However, as I stated earlier if a person is dead then if that person left residual energy, only a person who is still alive can stir that energy up and get it going.

Residual energy has no intelligence. It has no feeling or will of it's own. It has no control over anything at all it is in effect a reflection and recollection of what once was, but still is in full represents the atmosphere of that location. Intelligent haunting can also get refueled by similar events repeating themselves in the area but then this is because of the spirit recognizes what is happening to be similar to what might have caused their demise and inability to let go of the location in the first place.

These residual energies would feel like they are good, evil or neutral depending on the imprints that the genius loci are built up of.

Managed by Steve and Susanne Taggart and assisted by Vinny Brindle, the UK Shadow Seekers (UKSS) are a Not-for-Profit, Volunteer-based team of experienced investigators, who invite the public to join them, as they investigate the history of strange occurrences reported at some of the UK’s most haunted locations and more importantly, at a reasonable price.

What is the reason for your interest in the paranormal?

Personally to find proof of life after death, but like everyone, watching paranormal programs and films has peaked our interest and made us want to find out for ourselves.

How long have you been doing this?

The UKSS started back in 2007. Steve and I actively started to investigate the Paranormal and Spiritual field back in 2005 but collectively we have over 30 years experience within the Team.

One such venue, the Roe Cross Inn in Mottram-In-Longdendale, where we had glasses being thrown. Until a census was found and we discovered that there was a landlord missing from the list of tenants mentioned on a plaque in the pub. We had picked up on a name previously and this name matched. After that, no more poltergeist activity happened, but there other things still happening there.

In your opinion what is the hot-spot of your region?

This is a very hard question to answer as any venue can be a hot-spot at any given time, but our favourite’s are Hyde Town Hall, Knottingley Town Hall and Morecambe Winter Gardens as there is always something happening.

My family has a long history of Ghost Hunting

A family is like the rocks of this wall, every rock is part of a larger whole, if one remove a few rocks the wall would change, perhaps making the wall crumble, perhaps the rocks took a different path becoming the foundation to a home, or never left the nature it used to part of. 


Growing up in a very active house, surrounded by a family which took spirits for granted. I knew from a early age about all of these stories of those before me and how they used to encounter, seek out and help the spirits of anyone which requested them to do so.

The most prominent ones were my grandfather and his brother (The Psychic Ghosthunter Twins) on my fathers side. While my grandfather knew spirits, my grand uncle saw, together they were quite a team and very well known for their talent. They found their ability to sense spirits when they were just a little boys. Not only did they know and see the spirit, but also knew how to help them, chase them away if it was being troublesome or even give them sanctuary in case of nice spirits that were being pestered by the new inhabitants of his or her old home. Which is one of the reasons my grandfather's home had so many spirits to begin with. Whenever there was a haunting they were called to help, I never met my grand uncle but my grandfather kept on taking care of ghosts long after their ways split apart. Even at the age of 94 my grandfather still helped settle the restless ghost of his son-in-law when it was scaring his newest great grand child.

I do not know if there was others before my grandfather, in my family but I am pretty sure there was a few, seeing how common the ability of psychic talents and spirit sense seems to be among my close current living relatives.

I also have Ghost hunters on my mothers side, my mother being one of them, even though my mother never searched out ghosts they usually came to her and she helps them out. And her grandmother, my great grandmother were also a known source when it came to handling ghosts. So put it mildly, I have it in my blood.

The White House: Lincoln's Ghost

When I first started searching for information into the hauntings of the White House, I thought it would be a fairly boring, and uneventful but as I continued I was positively surprised, I knew about rumors that Abraham Lincoln the 16th President of the United States after he was assassinated April 15th 1865, still walk the halls and rooms of The White House, but had no idea how common his appearance had been throughout the centuries. And what really surprised me was when I heard that President Lincoln had a premonition about his own death and the president related that information to Ward Hill Lamon, which was a good friend of Lincoln.

Lincoln's ghost was very active during the administration of Franklin Roosevelt. He used the Lincoln bedroom as a study for his wife Eleanor. The former first lady never saw Lincoln however, she reported that while she was in that room she could feel a presence watching her and she felt that it was Lincoln. President Lincoln's ghost was reported by a young clerk in the Roosevelt administration. The clerk reported that he saw president lincoln  sitting on a bed and removing his boots. Sometime during 24 June - 11 August of 1942 Queen Willhelmina of The Netherlands while in a room at the white house as a guest of the Roosevelt's when she reported hearing a knocking on the door from the room she was at and when she answered the door, the queen said she saw President Lincoln from across the hall. Calvin Coolidge's wife has said she has seen Lincoln's ghost staring out of a oval office window.

Winston Churchill  stepped out of his bath while staying at the white house one night during WW2, very likely during his visit in May 1943, Churchill was walking naked from the bathroom to the adjoining bed room, He was indeed surprised to see Abraham Lincoln standing at the fire place in the bedroom.

In recent years during the Reagan Administration (1981-1989) there was some incidences related to the Ghost of Lincoln, Maureen Reagan, the daughter of President Reagan has mentioned that she saw the Ghost many times, and also their dog would refuse to enter Lincoln's bedroom standing outside the door barking.

Chicago's Most Haunted Hotel - The Congress Plaza Hotel

The Congress Plaza Hotel stands on Michigan Ave in the nation's windy city of Chicago. Reported to be the most haunted hotel in Chicago, it was built to house the travelers attending the 1893 world's fair and also served as the hotel for the first annual Chicago ghost conference.

The hotel had many famous guests over the years, and it is rumored to have once been owned by the notorious gangster Al Capone. There have been reports of seeing the ghost of Al Capone in the hotel,  and some even say that he used the hotel as his headquarters. However, there is no evidence to suggest Al Capone actually stayed at the Congress Plaza Hotel. Historians do agree that Al Capone began his days in crime in the old Metropole Hotel at 2003 S. Michigan Avenue in Chicago, and in 1928, he relocated to the Lexington Hotel under the alias “George Philip” until October of 1931. It is possible he stayed at the hotel briefly under another alias (If you are interested to know more about other Displaced Hauntings read Displaced Hauntings - The Haunted Railroad Tracks)

The hotel has also reported to have other unexplained activity. Many of the recent guests have sighted a ghost the hotel staff call Peg Leg Johnny, a hobo that is said to have been killed there many years ago. There has been legends of many ghosts of the famous that haunt the hotel, as well as reports of appliances turning themselves on and off. Security guards also have reported hearing ghostly noise coming from the hotel ballroom only to find it empty and quiet upon investigation. 

One can also see a gloved hand sticking out of a wall. It is the hand of a worker that mistakenly got behind drywall during construction. The staff call it the hand of mystery. 

So the next time you are in the windy city, take a room at the Congress Plaza Hotel and experience Chicago's most haunted hotel.

Weekly Whisper #5 Haunted Places Honolulu, Hawaii

In this weeks issue of Weekly Whisper I will present some haunted places in the city of Honolulu. Honolulu is the State capital of Hawaii and the 57th biggest Metropolitan area in USA. It is located on the island of Oahu, and has it's fair share of paranormal hot spots and hauntings just please remember these places are private property and you will need permission from the owner to enter. Also remember if you bring any lava rocks with you home from Hawaii, you might end up with The curse of the Lava Rocks.

The Diamond Head Crater is a popular hiking destination, and there has been some reports of UFO's there, which are possible part of secret military experiments. Also there is a Diamond Head cliff were babies cry

The sound of night marchers and distant drums are sometimes reported to be heard here, said to be originated from the bloody battles from when King Kamehameha I invaded Oahu back in 1795.

The University of Hawaii in the Manoa Valley has many known hauntings, ranging from Nightmarchers (Huaka'i Pō) eternal janitors in the various buildings to former students that still wall the rooms and dorms of what used to be their day to day place of being in life.

Hilton Hawaiian Village
Said to be haunted by a woman in red, and thought to be the ghost of Pele the volcano goddess. Pele has from other locations thought to appear in many different forms ranging from a young girl, old lady or a woman with flaming red hair, and usually dressed in red.

Pearl Harbor, world famous from the attack that brought USA into World War II,  the base at Pearl Harbor has many places still haunted to this day, with many sightings and sounds especially footsteps.

'Iolani Palace, Downtown Honolulu.

'Iolani Palace, The Palace was built in 1879-1882 in Downtown Honolulu, only a decade before the monarchy was overthrown in 1893. The 'Iolani Palace is known for people seeing shadows both inside and around the Palace grounds. Guards often also report hearing footsteps.

The Dole Cannery Signature Theaters
Built on the site of an ancient temple, at one time a bus filled with children crashed here, the voices from all the children that died here can still be heard.

The Old Rusty Ford Mustang

Years ago I had a ford mustang. This mustang looked horrible, it was rusty all over. Rusty as it was, the car ran very good. However, my best friend always insisted on using his car whenever we went anywhere together. He always said he wouldn't be seen in my rust bucket. To be honest, I couldn't blame him. One day he and I were on our way to a concert about 100 miles away. We had to take my car because his was in the shop for repairs. The whole way to the concert my friend kept complaining about having to take my car.

After the concert we stopped at a fast food place for a bite to eat. On the way home my friend told me that if he ever died before I did, he would come back and haunt my car just so I would give in and buy a new one. We both laughed at that and soon we and my rust bucket made it home. My friend slept at my house that night because we got home late and he had to be at work in the morning. As he and I were ready for bed he told me again that if he dies before I do, he would come back and haunt my car so I would give in and buy another car.

A few weeks later my friend was killed in a car accident on his way home from work. I drove to his grave several times a week, Every time I would go to leave his grave site my car would not start. This continued for 2 weeks everyday. Until I went out and bought myself a new car.

Brat the Ghost Cat

Brat the Cat

I had many cats during my life time the cat Brat stands out as my favorite. My Mother also loved Brat. He had a bad habit of just walking up to something and knocking it over. He loved jumping on top the TV knocking my mother's plant off onto the floor, walking up to the phone that was on a small end table besides my mother's recliner chair and take his paw and use it to knock off the handset from the phone. Another one of Brat's  favorite objects to knock over was a small figurine my mother had in the living room. Brat would also go into the bathroom and get the toilet paper and drag it all over the apartment. However, he was also very loyal, every morning at 8:30 Brat would jump up on my mother's bed and gently touch her face with his paw until she woke up. From that point on he would follow her everywhere.

One day when Brat was three years old he started to seizure. After several seizures and many trips to the veterinarian he would still seizure and he finally died from them. I felt a strong loss from Brats passing and my mother cried. She would always say how her days were longer and so much more sad without Brat by her side.

One night about two weeks after Brat passed away, My Mother woke up around 1AM. She came into my room and woke me up. She said that she woke up to go to the bathroom and when she walked out into the hallway she saw the toilet tissue dragged out into the hallway just like Brat used to do. I then walked into the living room and saw my mother's figurine on the carpet. I thought at first, my mother had done it because she missed him so much, maybe she even did it in her sleep or something like that. However a few nights later I woke up from a sound I heard coming from the living room. As I walked into the living room to investigate  the sound, I saw my mother's figurine, her plant that sat on top of the TV both on the floor on there sides and, the handset to the telephone had indeed been knocked off the phone. From that moment on, I knew that Brat was still with us in spirit. This activity continued to happen from time to time.

A Young Spirit Haunting

Back years ago I was in a hospital with a friend of mine visiting her child whom was there due to a rare kidney issue. My friends little boy was very sick and not expected to make it. We were told we could stay as long as we needed.

It was midnight and I was worried about my friend as she was very tired and under so much stress that I suggested we leave and I would stay at her place with her just in-case she needed to return to the hospital anytime over night. My friend said she would much rather stay with her son because he was so sick. I agreed and we both pulled up chairs by his hospital bed and sat down to wait out the night. At some point we both fell asleep and I woke up at 3 am. I was sitting there thinking about if I should go to the gas station about two blocks away and get my friend and I some coffee. She was still asleep and I didn't want to wake her.

Right then I heard what seemed to be a child running down the hallway right outside the door. As I stood up and put my jacket on, I hear the footsteps  running back the other way. on my way out I stopped at the nurses station to tell the nurses that if my friend woke up and asked to please tell her I went for coffee. As I was walking down the hallway with the coffee, I once again heard the foot steps and this time they ran right past me.

I checked in at the nurses station and I inquired about what I was hearing. I told them that I could swear I heard running in the hallway a few times  and that it sounded like a small child. At first the nurses just looked at each other and said nothing. I figured it was something they were not willing to discuss so, I took my friend's coffee into the room. A few minutes later a nurse came into the room and asked me to step out in the hall for a minute. I did as she asked and she went on to explain what I was hearing was the spirit of a young child that died in that hospital many years ago. She told me that the fact that I was hearing the footsteps and running out side the room meant that it was a good sign that my friend's son would be ok. I asked her how he could be OK when just hours ago we were told he was not expected to make it. She looked at me and said she just felt he would be ok.

The about five hours later there was some improvement in his condition and over the next days he kept improving. In one week my friend's son was back home and in two weeks he was just like any other 4 year old. I went back to talk with the nurse and she told me that ever since a young boy died in that room many years ago. Staff would at times hear him run up and down the hall. When they would hear this it always seemed that some small child was in that room and not expected to live. However, if they heard the running whoever was in that room and whatever was wrong with them they lived and made full recoveries. In addition, my friend's son told her weeks later that when he was sick that he dreamed that a young boy visited him and told him not to worry because he would be well again soon.

The Haunted Primary School Stage

This is one of the scariest experiences that I've had in my childhood, and it was experienced not only by me but by all of my 5th grade primary class of 23 students back in Norway. It all started one windy cold autumn day during recess, usually we were not allowed to stay inside the school between classes, but since the teachers had declared the weather outside to be bad enough that we could play inside instead.

I do not recall how this started but I do think it all began with a dare from some of the boys to the girls, we had all heard that our school was supposed to be haunted, and the best spot would be in the basement bomb-shelter behind the school stage, and it was to us known as behind Amfi, which was dark and a part that none of us had ventured to before.

I stayed in the sloped entrance area about 15 yards up from the school stage, with 4 of my friends, we had a perfect view as 15 of our friends disappeared into the dark, and the rest stayed at the stage preparing to enter in to join the exploration towards the bomb-shelters. Then all of the sudden we heard screams from the darkness, and watched our friends running towards us in panic out of the dark, but their faces did not look normal, it was like they were wearing a gray mask making them look inhuman, and it was not only me that saw that. All of us up in the entrance had the exact same experience of the event happening only 15 yards away from us. 

When we all got upstairs I noticed and brought to attention that my friend Tordis' left hand had a deep rift in it and was covered in blood, he was one of those that had gone deepest into the area behind the stage, but was unaware that he had been hurt before we brought it to his attention. More-so when we as a group described what had happened, both the girls and the boys in the darkness had heard a deep voice speaking to them, there, and they had felt a presence that filled them with fear and caused them all to run back up in panic. None of us ever went back behind the stage.

The Haunted Bachelor's Grove Cemetery, Midlothian, Illinois

Six years ago, I decided to check out Bachelor's Grove, the famously "haunted" abandoned cemetery in Midlothian, Illinois. I've lived near it all my life but never saw it, despite all its haunted claims. From a lady in white searching for her child to mobsters bodies being thrown in the pond;  this place had many a story.

I was a complete skeptic of the paranormal at the time but tried to stay as open minded as I could. I brought my 35mm camera and my digital and took off.  It has been told that you will get evidence of any kind when shooting photos at the Grove, no matter what. Well, I was there alone during the daytime and all I was getting was mosquito bites and heat rash while taking photos; I decided to investigate on a hot humid July day.  I was there for a good hour when it started raining, so I headed back to the parking lot on the other side of the cemetery.

I got to the middle of the woods and decided what the hell, even though I don't believe in spirits, let me thank them for letting me "visit."  So I stopped and said "thank you."  I started to walk again and suddenly heard whispers. I turned around but no one was there. I started walking again and heard the whispers again, this time a little louder.  I stopped, turned and said, "Is someone trying to communicate with me?"  Silence.  As I walked away I swore I heard "welcome..."  I just shrugged it off and went to have my film developed.  It was probably just some kids playing around the area or on the local bike path.  It was a little strange but nothing to set me running.

I had my film developed and brought it home. All the pictures where of the tombstones, pond, trees-nothing out of the ordinary.  As I was putting them away one picture of the pond caught my eye.  A strange orb is seen floating above the water.  I studied it and studied it, but I couldn't explain it.  Was it a spirit?  Did I actually catch a "ghost" on film?  Or was this a fluke, a malfunction of the camera or the film?  I was baffled, and I am to this day.  Here is the picture;  I will have you decide. I have been to Bachelor's Grove half a dozen times since, but have not captured anything else on film.  Hmmmm....
Maybe this was the spirit saying you're welcome?
