Haunted Bridges

There are many, many alleged haunted bridges across the U. S. A. and across the world, just as many stories about the events that take place on or near these bridges. We will focus on three of  the ones I thought you might be interested in reading about. The first one we will take a look at needs no build up at all at all. It would be the world famous Golden Gate Bridge. Here are some of the things people claim to have experienced at the bridge.

The Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco, California
The Golden Gate Bridge opened in 1937. Since then more then 1,300 people have been said to jump off the bridge to their death. Even after all these years, people still report hearing screams  and disembodied voices through the fog late at night. There have been many reports of a phantom ship sailing under the bridge at night. Some reports claim the phantom ship to be that of the SS Tennessee. That ship wrecked and went down  in the waters at the bridge in the 1850's. back some years ago, The Golden Gate Bridge was said to be the favorite spot of those who decided to end their own lives.

Emily's Bridge, Vermont
Emily's Bridge is located in the state of Vermont. The bridge was built in 1844 and it's original name was Gold Brook Bridge. The Bridge was renamed Emily's Bridge after Emily died there. No one knows for sure how Emily died at the bridge. Some say  she somehow got  trampled by a team of horses. Others say she caused her own death by jumping off the bridge or, hanging herself  from a beam in the roof. Most people think Emily's buggy overturned on the bridge killing her. Emily's spirit is said to be hanging around the bridge both night and night, either appearing as a flickering white light or, as a strange breeze that makes one is sort of state of haziness .

Bostian's Bridge of Statesvill, North Carolina
Bostian's Bridge is in the great state of North Carolina east of Statesville. In 1891 sometime during the late part of August, train number 9 derailed on the Bostian's Bridge falling into the ravine below. The accident took 30 lives that day. Countless people have claimed that at exactly at 3 am on the anniversary of that horrible accident, It happens all over again . They claim to hear the screams of people involved in the accident, they say they hear metal twisting and the sound of the train cars hitting the ravine. However, when investigators
are at the bridge at 3AM on the anniversary of the accident, No evidence has been found for any of the claims.

Sach's Bridge of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
Sachs bridge is found just outside of Gettysburg, PA, very close to the Eisenhower farm where president Eisenhower lived out his days after his term of United States president was up.  The bridge was built in 1852 by David Stoner. One story go's that three confederate soldiers deserted their unit during the Battle of Gettysburg and were  hung from the bridge as their punishment. There are several things that have been reported there, people have claimed to see a strange mist, and, appertains  also, some have said they could hear cannon fire and screams of the dying, along with the cold spots and orbs.

Jeesiöjoki Bridge into Sodankylä, Finland, Northern Europe

Durning the winter war in Finland there was many fierce and bloody battles fought all over Finland between The Soviet Russian forces against and the Finnish and their allies the Nazi Germans, the many battle of Jeesiöjoki Bridge dates back to WW2 during 1944.

Haunting at the 147th Gettysburg reenactment

This one is from Matt

When I was back in Gettysburg for the 147th Gettysburg reenactment my dad and I went out to the real battlefields south of the town. As we walked down cemetery ridge towards the Pennsylvania volunteers monument to make a video I thought I saw a group of confederate reenactors charging towards the angle  as we walked. Thinking they were just reenactors I took out my camera to take a picture but when I looked back they were gone. In the two seconds it took to get my camera out, they were nowhere to be seen. I was already shooting the video.

When we went to the angle I asked some of the nearby tourist if they saw a small group of confederates charging the wall. They all said no. When I played the video back, I could hear this group of confederates charging but could not see any of the group. Right then I knew I had seen something paranormal and it still lingers in my mind about who's regiment and who's division they were with.

I guess I always knew of paranormal activity at the Gettysburg battlefield because of all the accounts one hears of such things going on there and around the town itself However, I never went out looking for anything like that at all. So I also wonder why was I the person to experience any paranormal activity at all. Why did this group of confederates choose me to see this and to experience this.

For more information on hautings and other paranormal activities at the Gettysburg Battlefield, read The Hauntings of The Gettysburg Battlefield.

Weekly Whisper #4 Terry Dietrich

Tell Us About Terry Dietrich.
------------------------------------
I love photography,  I have for a very long time.  I got involved with the paranormal about 7 yrs ago. I was at the Jenny Wade house in Gettysburg, Pa and got some Orbs in a photo. There was a medium there and I ask her about them. From there one thing led to another and we became very good friends and, I learned a lot from her. The more I learn, the more open I became and my interest also grew. I now go to Gettysburg just about every weekend and go on a investigation just about every Saturday night with one group or another.

Please Tell Us About Some Of The Experiences You’ve  Had

One experience I had was a Sat. night at Devils Den. It's a big pile of boulders on the battlefield. My wife and I were walking around and three ladies past by they had black hupe skirts on and black bonnets, carrying lanterns with candles in. As they past I waited until I thought they could not hear and ask my wife if she noticed anything odd. She said no but ask why I said that, I told her not one of the ladies were living. I can sometimes pick up on that. We turned and the ladies were just standing there staring at us. It was a look I'll never forget.  I know there was no way they could have heard me. As we walked around people were talking about these ladies saying they would not show up in a photo and if you got near them they just vanished in thin air.

Devil's Den at the Battlefield: Ladies and Orb

I did get a photo with one of the Lady's (above) You see one lady standing there and the lantern on the ground. Later two of the ladies were walking in front of us and I took a pic only the flame from the candle showed up. If you look where the ladies should be there is a orb (below) I have had many things happen but that night was very strange.

Devil's Den at the Battlefield

Sach's Bridge - Walking Apparition

One place I go too a lot is Sach's bridge it's just out of town. It's a covered bridge that was here during the war there have been many sightings and evps, all forms of paranormal things happen at the bridge. Two photos that are among my favorites are from there. I got this figure on the bridge walking in front of me (above) and a horse with a rider going in the bridge (below)

Sach's Bridge - Horse with Rider

In the area that I live in Gettysburg is a very hot spot. People ask all the time where is the best place on the battlefield to get something paranormal to happen. I really don't think there is one place better than a other. I believe if you just go out looking, keep a open mind, show respect and have patience and, any where is good.

Can You Tell Us A Little About The Equipment That You Use.

My equipment is very simple. First Is a open mind. I believe that is very important. If you’re with a group or alone. Also have respect for those around you living and in spirit and for your surroundings try to leave things the way you found them. Cameras I use a Nikon D50,Canon SD1200 IS, and a Olympus D-535.I also use a Olympus WS400-S recorder,  I use a K2 meter now and then. The most used piece I have is my Dowsing rods there cheap and very useful. You really don't need to spend a lot. You can use a cheap point and shoot I've even used disposable and had results.

Do You Have A Web site Or Web Page That You can Be  Reached At ?

For those interested I have a Facebook page @ http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#!/profile.php?id=759249263 and I'm also on MySpace @ http://www.myspace.com/peaveydude

What Would Tell Someone Who Wants To Get Started
With Paranormal Photography Or Paranormal Investigations In General?

--------------------------------------------------------------
As I mentioned earlier I think the most important thing to have are; a open mind, respect and, patience. Just go out and have a good time. Most people I run into are very friendly.

Visits from my Dad

Photo of Chesapeake Bay by Eileen, Pa

Todays entry is from Eileen in Gettysburg, Pa
My dad raised us with the help of our Grandmother after my Mother passed away from cancer. I was nine and the rest of the kids were younger. We had a pretty rocky relationship for quite a few years until just before he passed away at the age of 52. He drank alot and I was as a few people pointed out, just like him, pigheaded and stubborn. We battled each other but loved each other too. The parent's curse is true, he got one just like him. I really missed him after he passed. I would go to the phone and dial his number before I realized he wouldn't be there to answer it.

I was in the middle of a dilemma about something that would be life changing for my family. I constantly worry about things and I was in sort of a panic about what I really wanted. The time to make a firm decision was getting close and I still hadn't decided what I wanted to do.

My dad came to me in dreams sometimes. I don't remember what was said but I would remember he had come to visit. This one night though, I remember it very clearly. He knew I was having a hard time deciding what to do and I remember him looking at me and saying, "Go ahead and do it, you have nothing to lose and a lot to gain". I know there was more to that visit but those words are the only ones I remember. I know that I made my decision then and fell back into a nice sound sleep. That is how we came to live out in the Gettysburg area of Pennsylvania on a small farm.

The only other time I have seen him that clearly was during the day. We had one car and I would take my husband to work and I would have to drive through the battlefield to get there. I was driving down Steinhour Ave. just at the beginning of the National Park. My son in the back seat. As I drove down the road I see this guy thumbing a ride. I did a double take, I swear it was my Dad. He had hitchhiked where we used to live as if he could not find a ride. There was no traffic as I did a u-turn in the middle of the two lane road. I was going back to pick him up but when I got there, he was gone. I was really upset and disappointed, but on the other hand, I was glad to see him.

I haven't seen him since then, that I remember but I do have a constant reminder of him. My youngest son is the spitting image of him. He had the looks and the same attitude. I swear he is Dad reincarnated. My son was born with no hair, no eyebrows or eyelashes and in his baby picture, he is shooting the bird. My dad was bald and had at one time singed off his eyebrows and eyelashes while relighting a water heater. My Dad's favorite saying was, "What goes around, comes around", and I believe it has.

The Hauntings of the Gettysburg Battlefield

The Battle of Gettysburg July 2. 1863

Gettysburg, Pa. is one of the most haunted towns in the United States if not the world. It is safe to say that there are places all over Gettysburg that are haunted. Some of these hot spots are; Devils Den, Rose Farm, Triangular Field, Culps Hill and Cemetery Hill.

The Devil's Den

Actually, Devil's Den was haunted even before the battle of Gettysburg, Native Americans reported a battle there, and that is why the name Devil's Den was given to it. People have reported being approached by apparitions at Devil's Den as well as being touched while at this location. I myself have been at Devils Den and each time have felt as if I was being watched and two times have seen a purple haze on the top of the rocks. A Purple haze has been reportedly seen all over the battlefield.

The Rose Farm

Another place that is one of the most haunted places on the battle field is the Rose Farm. The Rose Farm was used as a makeshift hospital after the battle. Very, very many soldiers died at the Rose Farm and most were buried outside the farmhouse in rows. There has been many reports from both visitor and locals alike who say they have  seen apparitions there and people do warn others not to go to the Rose Farm or Devil's Den. I have been at the Rose farm and I have seen partial apparitions on two occasions both  times outside the house around the area where the soldiers were buried.

The Triangular Field

The Triangular Field has been reported by many to be haunted it has long been said and, I myself have experienced that electrical equipment will not work there. Things such as cameras not working, batteries of all kinds suddenly drained of power, radios stop working there, both car and two way radios. I remember a time when my friend and I went to Triangular Field to check it out for ourselves. We took three photos and the camera itself did work at first but then died on us a few minutes later and also, on our third trip there our car battery did indeed die on us. My friend had his own dark room and when he developed the three photos, they all three came out  with just a blue/gray color to them. NO photo, just a solid blue/gray back ground with no photo at all.

The Culps Hill

Culps Hill and Cemetery Hill. It is reported that at both places one can smell vanilla and peppermint from the scented handkerchiefs the locals would put across their mouths and nose in the days after the battle. If they didn't cover them then, they would throw up  due to the smell of dead bodies rotting in the hot July sun. Also there have been reports of locals and visitors seeing ghost in the form of a huge mist or haze wondering the hills. I have been both places and I have never smelled anything unusual However, I have indeed seen the strange mist. Another place where there have been reports of phantom regiments is up Cemetery Ridge.

Cemetery Hill

If you want to find out for yourself about these places, go visit them and spend some time, if you dare. You can see things and hear things as well as smell things at the battlefield and, around the Gettysburg area all year long. However, because of what ( I ) think is residual energy on the battlefield, Most of the activity tales place in the summer and especially during the first week of july because the battle of Gettysburg was fought on July 1st-2nd and-3rd. I have heard that many National Park Rangers who patrol the battlefield over the years have actually asked for transfers because of the ghostly activity on the Gettysburg Battlefield !

The Purple Mist

Purple Haze Wonderful Night Images

Purple Haze Wonderful Night Layout Graphic

This is the Purple Haze Wonderful Night layouts graphic from layoutsparks.com

This one is in from Dustin in Gettysburg, PA
I am sure most of you know that every year over the 4th of July weekend in Gettysburg Pa, there is a re-enactment of the battle of Gettysburg. My two best friends and I were always civil war buffs and we took part in the reenactment every year. One year my friend and I got out to the battlefield a day early and right about dark we set up camp and built a camp fire and waited for our other friend, Alan, to arrive. My friend and I were sitting around the fire drinking iced tea while we waited and we were talking about a lot of different things. As my friend, Tommy, and I drank our iced tea and talked shop while we waited for  Alan I started to get this strange feeling deep inside of me.

We had camp set up at devil's den and we decided to take our lanterns and walk up on the rocks for a bit. We ere both wondering where alan was and why he was so late. We walked all around Devil's Den for about 30 minutes. As we returned to the camp site some other re-enactors  were starting to set up camp right beside ours. While talking to them, I noticed a purple mist right in front of me and I swear I saw Alan's face in the mist. I shut my eyes and when I opened them his face and the mist were gone. A few minutes later as I was talking to my Tommy, I saw the mist again and also Alan's face.

At that point one of the other re-enactors had asked Tommy and I if we had heard about the accident out on route 15  just south of town. We said no but that we did hear sirens a few hours ago. The guy we were talking to said there had been an accident and one fatality there earlier in the late afternoon. Once again there was the purple mist and Alan's face in the mist. I asked Tommy if he had seen it and he said I was crazy.

I went to my car and drove to Alan's house and no one was there. I then drove past the hospital and at the very end parking stall right beside the street, I saw Alan's girl friend's car. I pulled in beside it and walked into the emergency room waiting room. Once inside, I saw Alan's girl friend and his parents all sitting there in tears. Also with them was a police officer and, it was explained to me that Alan was the fatality  in the accident out on route 15 earlier that day.

A Stormy Dream

Several years ago my mother told me about a dream she had and, that it worried her. She stated that in the dream our house was destroyed by a storm and that she wasn't sure if anyone in the family survived. I listened to her as she told me all about it. However, I didn't worry about it too much as my mother, sweet and awesome as she was, always was one to worry.

About 3 nights after she told me about her dream I was not spending the night at home and my father was at his graveyard shift job about 20 miles away from our home. That night, there was a tornado (we almost never had tornadoes in our part of Pa.) However, that night there was one and needless to say it touched down in our yard and our house was destroyed. Except for the one room my mother and the poodle were in. My mom was asleep in her room and the poodle was with her and it was the only room that was still standing of our house.

As soon as I heard the news on the radio the next morning I jumped in my car and rushed to our house but a mile away I could drive any further due to trees across the road so I walked the rest of the way. As I approached our house, all i could see was downed trees and parts of our house and the neighbors house strewn all over the place, I looked at our house and saw that only one room was still standing and it was my parents bedroom. I ran up to what was left of the house, my heart beating wildly and trying to see anything that would let me know that my mother was still alive. there were emergency crews all over the place as well as police cars. One of the paramedics told me there was a lady trapped inside the house. I looked in the window and saw my mother and the poodle sitting on her bed.

It took what seemed like forever to get my mother and the poodle free from the twisted mess that use to be a house but when they were finally able to free my mother and, after a medical check was done to assure she was OK, my mother was taken by police car to my older brothers house and I followed in my car.

later that night I was talking to my mother and she looked at me and told me that she tried to warn me about it because she saw it in her dream a few nights before. I never again doubted my mother's ability to tell of  impending danger  by way of her dreams and to be honest, it was truly not the last time she knew of something before the event took place.

The Haunted Farm House

Back about thirty years ago in Gettysburg, Pa when I was just starting to explore the paranormal, a friend of mine was a noted paranormal investigator in the area. Although, back then, the paranormal field was very small and not a very popular field to get into or at least in my area of the country it wasn't. At any rate, my friend invited myself and another friend of mine to go on an investigation with him and a few of his colleagues. This farmhouse that we were to help investigate was owned by my investigators friend's family from way back long before the battle of Gettysburg. Now this house was not on the battlefield as we know it today but was close to it.

My investigator friend (Frank) was very eager to go into this farm house and try to find out at-least some of what was reported to be going on there. One particular hot and humid Friday evening in the middle of August, Frank and his 4 man crew and my friend and I drove to the property and back the Long Lane to his family's farm house that had not been occupied for over 50 years. Even though it was nine in the evening and dark, you could tell that the farm house was in bad shape. As we entered the house with our recorders, cameras, flash lights and, lanterns, we all decided to stay together in the house and not spread out. The inside of the house was all cob webs and smelled moldy.

In the kitchen area of the house or at least where and old time stove was, there was a cellar door one that opened up when you lifted it up. and that was about it for that area. off from the kitchen was a sitting room and  there was a wooden chair in that room and a small table that was really in bad shape. and an old, what looked like what used to be a rug. The upstairs was just two rooms a large one that was the master bedroom and a much smaller room. As we were in the kitchen area I swear to you, the cellar door would at times open just a bit by itself and slam shut. We had a hard time getting upstairs due to the steps rotting and breaking but, we made it up there anyway. The smaller bed room was pretty much intact and nothing much seem to happen there. However, in the master bedroom. it was cold and this was in the middle of August and there was a feeling of fright, despair, and sadness. My friend and I and two of the crew got a very sick in our stomachs and had to leave the area right away.

We headed back down stairs and we all saw the cellar door open and slam shut a few more times and that was it for my friend and I. We went and waited in the car until the rest of the crew and Frank came out. it only took about two minutes for them to leave after we did.

The very next day while researching the farm house, we all discovered that back many years ago, the family that lived there was murdered. A man and his wife and a small child. There bodies were reportedly buried in the cellar.

Frank always knew that there was a family murdered there but he didn't know exactly when or why. We all knew that when we went in but we never expected to feel the fright and sadness and despair we all felt in the master bedroom and to this day I feel that the cellar door was opening and slamming shut because the bodies were buried in the cellar. That my friends is what spiked my interest in the paranormal.

A Blessing from my dead Mother-in-Law to be

I had never met my mother in law, since she passed away a few years prior to meeting my significant other. This happened in his hometown of Gettysburg, Pa.

During my second night staying there with my soon husband to be, I got this dream that his mother came to the bedroom, she spoke to me in my dream, and appeared to me as I had seen her on his family pictures. The dream was brief as she told me her full name, including her middle name which no one had ever told me, she said how happy I made her feel, seeing that her son had found the one he would be with, and told me that she was so proud of me, and that she knew I was the right one for her son, the final words was to watch over her baby boy, and she leaned forward and gave me kiss on the cheek, and a hug.

At this instant I woke up, I felt the spot on my cheek that she kissed me at, and It felt like I had really been given a hug. I told my fiancé what I had just experienced that night and shared the message and the full name she had given me to let her know it was really her. He looked at me with disbelief in his eyes but he soon accepted what I shared with him because there was no doubt in my soul that this was really the blessing for our marriage from his diseased mother.

Later that same day we visited her grave, and I got this feeling of inner peace, I think this was my mother-in-law touching my soul again, confirming the dream and for giving our respect at her resting place.

The Ghost of Taneytown Road

I come from Gettysburg, PA. Gettysburg is a medium sized town in south central PA. According to the travel channel Gettysburg is supposedly one of the most haunted towns in America. I guess that is due to all the people that died during the civil war and the battle of Gettysburg.

One night I got a call from a friend of mine ( Tom ) Tom lived up the street from me and he asked if I could come over. I said OK and went right over. When I got there Tom opened the door to let me in and I swear he was white as a ghost. I asked him what was wrong and he just said get in here so I can lock the door. Now this was in winter, three days before Thanksgiving. Once inside and a nice hot cup of coffee in front of me I once again asked Tom what was wrong and if he was ok.

Tom sat across the table from me and he was shaking. With trembling lips, he looked at me and told me he wrecked his car because he saw a ghost. Now, the problem with that was that my friend Tom did Not believe in ghost at all. Well he didn't believe in ghost until he saw one that day anyhow.

His account of what took place was this. Tom said he was driving on the Taneytown rd. Taneytown rd is a road that goes out onto the Gettysburg battlefield and there was a major battle fought there during the battle of Gettysburg. Tom stated that he was on a straight stretch of road and was coming up on a curve. Right before he went to negotiate the curve he heard a sound come from the back of his car. Tom looked into his rear view mirror and saw a confederate solider sitting in the back seat of his car. Tom went on to say that this solider was just sitting in the back seat of his car and it frightened Tom so much that he lost control of his car and ran off the road into a field.

His car had only slight damage to it and Tome was more shaken up then injured. The police report only stated that he lost control of his car and did not say for what reason. One thing to note here is that, as far as anybody can tell, Tom was the first to have that experience and I am sure that I am the only person he told about it because of his fear of people thinking he was crazy if it got out. However, since Tom's experience, several other people have come along and said the same thing. yes, there have been several more accidents at the same spot over the years and most people say that they saw a confederate solider sitting in the back seat of their car.

As for Tom well, he still has a car but to this day, Tom will NOT drive on the Taneytown road.

The Falling Photo

In our family home in Gettyburg, PA, my Mother kept a photo of her sister in Baltimore, MD, hanging on the wall in the living room. She had it in a nice frame right on the wall for all to see. One night right before it got dark my Mother was sitting in her favorite chair and was talking about her sister (Sandy). She was explaining to me that she couldn't stop thinking her sister all day and she was going to call her before she went to bed that evening.

As soon as she said that, the photo fell off the wall and the glass in the frame must have gone into a thousand pieces all over the floor. The first thing my Mother did when it fell was she picked up the phone and started to make a call. I ask her who she was calling as I was carrying a broom and dust pan into the room to clean the broken glass up off the floor. My Mother informed me that when a photo falls off a wall that usally means that whoever the photo was of has just died and she wanted to call and make sure her sister was ok.

She dialed and then hung up saying that her sister's line was busy. As soon as my Mother finished telling me that our phone rang and my Mother answered it and she began to cry. After she hung up from the phone call she told me that it was a call about her sister. It seems he sister was at her home and suffered a stroke and fell down the stairs and died. It was not the stroke that killed her but instead it was the head injuries she had received from the fall.

I never was very superstitious but still after that, I do not hang photos of loved ones on any wall.

Nana is Watching Over Us

Sky "angel" photo taken by Jonina Oskarsdottir

This is another story from Cathy in Gettysburg, PA
When my granddaughter was around 1 year old, I was feeding her as she sat in her highchair. She looked around me and very clearly, said "Hi Nana" as she waved. I turned around and said, "Hi Mom!" as I knew my Mom was there. She had passed away 5 years earlier and my granddaughter had not met her in life, but I knew she met and knew her spirit.

A year or so later, I was holding another granddaughter, around 1 yr old, looking at some pictures on the wall. She pointed to a picture of my Mom and said "Nana". Spooky? Not at all. I firmly believe my Mom is here watching over us and visiting the babies.

As babies, the girls (independently) would be jibber jabbering to someone and if you asked them who they were talking to they'd say Nana. Stuff like that. It was very evident that Nana was around. This was definitely a baby/toddler thing as they rarely talk of her anymore.

They are now 8 and 10. It was always comforting to me that she was watching over them (and still is, no doubt!). I think that the older you get and the more innocence lost, it becomes harder or they have more things on their minds (but "Nana" is in the background.) Do you understand what I am trying to say? A lot of older kids wouldn't want to talk about something like that, you know? It would embarrass them of make them feel weird or something. I admit I have not asked the kids about her. I feel the memory is with each of them to treasure always.

I Love You Nana

This one was sent to me by Cathy In Gettysburg, PA. Great post Cathy!
I lost my beloved "Nana" when I was 10 years old. I loved and missed her so much. I also lost my baby brother, Timmy when I was 7 due to crib death. About 6 months after my "Nana's" passing, I was walking to school one day on a clear brisk autum morning and up ahead of me I saw a woman who looked like my Nana from the back, pushing an old fashion baby carriage. I called out to her and she turned around and said to me, "Cathy, I am with Timmy now. I love you! I started to cry because I missed her so much and I wanted her to hold me again." I started to run to her and she disappeared. I ran home crying and my Mom told me that Nana came to tell me she is ok and still loves me and that she is with Timmy.

This has got to be my favorite childhood memory. Afterwards, when I calmed down, I silently thanked my Nana for coming back to me and a kind of peace settled over me. My Dad said it was just my missing her, but I know I saw her and I know she spoke to me. So, since the age of ten I have known that there is life after death, and Angels and spirits do exist. There is no doubt in my mind. This happened 40plus years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday!

9/11 - A Norwegian's Foresight Story

This one is from Nina in Tromsø, Norway.
I recall that back in July 2001 I was about to travel through New York City, how I wanted to see the World Trade Center, I back then had this odd feeling this would be my only chance of doing so, not because I wouldn't be traveling to NY in the future but because I felt the towers would not be there the next time.

Then a few months later, in the first week of September and I was chatting online with my American friend Gary, over in Gettysburg PA, I told him that I had this odd feeling something bad was going to happen in New York really soon, something that was not an accident and that It would be really bad. Of course Gary refused to believe me, but I was adamant that he should tell his friends and family to stay away from NY that day, this was a really odd feeling since I have had feelings of bad things happening to members in my family, friends or neighbors and then it come true since I was a little kid, but never anything about people I never seen or heard about in a different country.

It struck me like a strong emotion, like the pain and grief of many many added together, overwhelmed me making me feel weak, frightened and lost. Then on September 11 the pieces all came together and my horrible foresight came true, even-though I didn't see the specifics I knew this was what I had felt, all that grief, from those in the flights, in the World Trade Center and from all the friends, relatives and loved ones they left behind, it still shocks me thinking about that, both my emotional foresight, the fact that I a few months earlier felt the World Trade Center was not going to be there much longer, and that I one week ahead felt it was really coming true.

A Dream Come True

Illustration Photo by PJ, Honolulu, Hawaii 2005

Back about 25 years ago I worked at a high class tavern in a ski resort back home in Gettysburg, PA . My job there was to assist the manager of the tavern and also to hire the entertainment for the tavern . It was a job that took a lot of time and energy but I loved doing it. Well one Thursday evening I was getting thins ready for a band that I hired to start the next evening and to play throughout out the weekend. Making sure the contract was for the band was all signed and that the room was ready for the band and so on and so on. All of a sudden I started to feel tired, very tired. I hurried and finished my work for the night and went straight home. Usually once at home I would eat and shower and do things for about three hours and then go to bed. On this nigh when I got home I took a real fast shower and then went right to bed. As I crawled between the sheets I remember thinking about how tired I was. I fell asleep almost as soon as my head hit the pillow.

I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed after a good nights sleep but yet, I was thinking about the dream I had while asleep. Not that the dream was strange but yet I couldn't get the dream out of my head. While asleep I had a dream that I was sitting on a bed in Indian fashion, talking to a guy about my age back then. This guy was sitting on a chair beside the bed, and that was it, that was the entire dream. The only thing strange about this dream was the fact that I was talking to this guy and when I awoke I knew I didn't even know this guy and have never met him so why was I talking to him in my dream? I didn't even know for sure if this guy really existed at all.

At work that afternoon I wondered why I could not get this dream out of my head. At about 3:30 pm a waitress informed me that the band had arrived to set up and practice before the show that night. I ask her to have one of them come in my office so I could give them their coupons for free meals for the weekend and ski passes in case any of them wanted to go skiing and also to give them the keys to their rooms for the weekend.

A young man walked into my office and I looked up as he entered and we both just froze in our track. he looked as if he had seen a ghost and I am sure I also looked the same. This young man was the man I was talking to in my dream. Now, this band was came from a city three hours away by car and I am sure I never met him before. I introduced myself and he did the same and after some small talk he looked at me and asked if he knew me at all and I said I didn't think so as I have never been to the city he lived in and he informed me that this was his first trip to this city that I lived in.

As we walked to the rooms the tavern provided for guest he looked at me and said "I know this sounds strange but i swear. I had a dream about you last night and I don't even know you." I almost fell to the floor when he said that and I had to tell him I had a dream about him the night before as well. We talked and both wondered why we dreamed about each other and what it all meant.

Well, neither one of us could come up with a suitable answer. However we did become instant friends and hung out for a good year after that and then our lives took us in different directions but, we did stay in touch for three more years and then we lost contact.

I often wonder whatever became of my friend and I bet he often wonders about me. I hope he is doing well and I also hope we will meet again some day. We never did figure out why both of us dreamed about each other before ever meeting each other.
